It's SPRING!!

Time to Spotlight the Needs of Young Children and Appreciate Our Child Care Providers

Spring is not just a season. It's the time each year when we make a special effort to support the field of early care and education and the dedicated professionals who make such a difference in the lives of children.

Week of the Young Child - April 11 -17, 2010: "Early Years Are Learning Years"

NAEYC-Week of the Young Child
WOYC
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) designates one week a year as the "Week of the Young Child." The purpose is to "focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs" (www.naeyc.org/woyc).

Although NAEYC schedules the dates and selects a theme, events and activities are planned and carried out by state and local organizations, communities and individuals. This includes NAEYC affiliates, community organizations, early childhood programs and other interested groups and individuals.  According to NAEYC, "However adapted, the central purpose remains unchanged--to promote the needs of young children, their families, and the early childhood programs that serve them."

For more information on Week of the Young Child ideas and activities check out:  http://www.naeyc.org/woyc

Provider Appreciation Day - May 7, 2010

The website www.providerappreciationday.org  describes Provider Appreciation Day as:

"...A special day to recognize child care providers, teachers and other educators of young children everywhere. Started in 1996 by a group of volunteers in New Jersey, Provider Appreciation Day is appropriately celebrated each year on the Friday before Mother's Day. The founding organizers saw the need to recognize the tireless efforts of providers who care for children of working parents. Momentum and support for this event has grown each year and recognition presently includes individuals and government organizations throughout the United States."

Through the provider appreciation day website, the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) and partners provide ideas and resources for parents and communities interested in showing their appreciation. Ideas range from a handwritten note to purchasing a resource for the center to a state proclamation.

For more information and resources to plan your own Provider Appreciation Day activities, go to: www.providerappreciationday.org

Start planning now, if you haven't already, to show your support and appreciation for those who care for and educate our young children.  They are making a difference, and so can you!

Registry FAQs

::
I am the director of a facility (or someone who oversees several child care sites). Can I call the Registry department to discuss an employee's application?
Our privacy policy is to speak with only the participant about their application, education, etc. Please have your employee contact us directly, and we will be happy to help.
::
I need to renew my Oklahoma Director's Credential, and I have an old Oklahoma Registry application from 3 or 4 years ago. Can I use it?
A few important items on the application have been updated, so we accept only the current application. You can download one from our website, www.cecpd.org, or contact Judith Tabler at CECPD and have an application mailed to you. Call Judith at 405-799-6383 (Oklahoma City metro) or toll-free, 1-888-446-7608, or e-mail her at jtabler@ou.edu
.
::
I can't find the certificate for my Oklahoma Director's Credential or Professional Development Ladder. Can I get another one?
Yes. You can request a replacement certificate by completing the "Certificate Replacement Form" found under the Oklahoma Registry section of our website,
www.cecpd.org
::
If I bring my application to your office, can I get my Director's Credential the same day?
Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis in order to be fair to all applicants. The Registry has 30 days to process your application once it is received. Although it may not take us 30 days to process, it's best to submit your application based on that timeline.

REWARD FAQs

::
How can I move up on the Professional Development Ladder to increase my supplement amount?
To move up on the Ladder and increase your supplement, you must complete additional education. The Scholars for Excellence in Child Care offers scholarships to child care professionals who qualify and want to earn credentials or degrees in early childhood education or child development. For more information, contact the Scholars at the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, 405-225-9395 or toll- free at 1-866-343-3881.
::
Can I fax my application in?
We need your original signature (and faxed copies can be difficult to read), so faxes are not accepted. When you mail in your application, use the checklist at the front to be sure your application is complete and you have included all of the required documentation.
::
What if I am out sick for a period of time?
The maximum amount of time you can be on leave from you facility at one time (for any reason) and remain active on REWARDis 12 weeks. The time you are not working has to be made up.
