Who at CECPD has talents that you admire?
When I grow up, I want to be just like Teri Clark; able to leap tall buildings in a single bound while creating an Access database or answering 1000 questions from staff members at CECPD always keeping a smile on her face.
Your favorite quote or motto:
"Many barriers in life can be considered either a stumbling block or a stepping stone. You get to choose which one works for you." Sharon Speer 1/2010 (been saying it for 20 years)
Why do you do this kind of work?
I do this kind of work because I was lucky enough to have had great mentors who nursed me along when I first started out as a director. Dr. Hilde Reno, Nova Southeastern University; Dr. Paula Jorde Bloom, McCormick Tribune; Judy Zimmerman, Nova Southeastern University all of which provided guidance in helping me understand that childcare is not just a 'business' but a 'way of helping a child learn about and discover the world all around them. Those early years are the most productive years in a young child's life. That is what I want to encourage in others who provide care to young children.
Complete this sentence: "In my other life I like to..."
My other life consists of family and grandchildren. There is nothing better than getting the kids together in the kitchen to make cookies or something yummy. No mess is too much for grandma (as long as their moms are there to help clean up). With 5 granddaughters and 2 grandsons, the task is no small deal but in the end that is how I want them to remember me.
What has been your most interesting assignment at CECPD?
My job responsibilities...I enjoy meeting the directors, administrators, and owners of child care facilities. We work together to develop a higher level of professional competence in the management skills necessary for the operation of a quality childcare business.
