Recent Training - Webinars & Live Session
Together, we completed two webinars and one live training session which accomodated a total of nearly 60+ concrete professionals on the new concrete stormwater permit. Each attendee, whether to a webinar on the computer, or to the live training session, received a training certificate to put in their SWP3 book.
For those of you who didn't attend, you can still visit the pre-recorded webinar on the RMA website in the Client Access area (are YOU signed up yet?). After viewing, ensure to email me the names of attendees for your training certificate. Better yet, view the webinar with additional employees so that we can have even more trained persons!

Thanks to all for your help and enthusiasm with these important training opportunities.

Sampling Deadlines
The first quarter 2009 is nearly done. For those of you who are "discharges to surface water", you know that you have to get your first quarter sample before the end of March. DON'T WAIT until the end of the quarter. Recall that from this point on, you only have to monitor for pH (doing it yourself?), TSS, and COD.
"Discharges to groundwater" facilities (or those with both surface water and groundwater discharges), recall that you will begin monitoring April 1st, so we still have some time. Attend one of the training courses to learn more about monitoring.
Also - remember - NO ONE has to do rainfall pH anymore...you still have to do the pH of your discharge sample (ie, the one from your outfall), but not the rainfall collected in a bucket! Don't waste your time with this anymore!
Along with getting your samples, remember to forward your SIGNED
DMR/WCR forms to RMA as soon as possible each quarter. You can send
them to us as soon as you receive them, you don't have to wait until
you get your samples! Also, PLEASE sign, print your name, enter your
telephone number, etc. on the bottom of each form, and DO NOT check the
box for "comments" (we'll do that IF it's necessary, which it often
isn't). If you find any problems with your forms, or don't get them
promptly during each quarter, let us know ASAP!
Also - don't
forget - EVERY TIME you send us a sample, you MUST include a completed
"Stormwater Monitoring Event Record Form" and "Certified Lab pH Data
Form" (if you are a certified pH lab) along with the data from your
outside lab. If you don't recall what these forms are, or don't have
copies, you can get them from the "Clients Only" access area on the RMA
website (see below). And, when you do send us your paperwork, please do
not send us your chain-of-custody forms, or the entire pH worksheets.
YOU need them - we don't!

Where's My Permit?
With a bit of patience and perserverance, we have ensured that most concrete facility clients of RMA have received at least the necessary parts of their new renewal concrete stormwater permit. However, we still have about 25% of client facilities that we have yet to receive our permit copies for. We are working on this, and you'll get your permit! In the meantime, RMA knows what your permit contains and what you have to do, so this is not a major problem for now. Sit tight, we'll get it!

What are Outfalls Called?
In the past, we always identified surface water outfalls by the designation "DSN00x" (with x identifying the number of the outfall location). The DSN portion referred to "discharge serial number".
Now, the NJDEP is changing the designations in order to differentiate between surface water discharges and groundwater discharges.
Groundwater discharges are being identified as "GMxC" (with x referring to the number of the outfall), and GM standing for "Groundwater Monitoring", and C for concrete. Thus, if you have 2 groundwater discharge points, they will be referred to as GM1C, GM2C, etc. This is what we will identify these locations as in your SWP3, on your site plans, and what you should put on your outfall signs. You may also see the designation "GMSA" in your Part III monitoring requirements portion of your permit.
We will continue to identify surface water outfalls as DSN00x numbers, but may have to change in the future to another designation, when the NJDEP determines what it should be!
Clear, isn't it?? |
