Resource Management Associates NJ Concrete Stormwater Client Weekly Update - February 19, 2009
|
|
Greetings!
From this point on, I will be sending you one "weekly update" on general topics applicable to all RMA concrete stormwater clients. If / when we get to the point of not having enough news for a weekly update, I may reduce the frequency, but that's not the case now. I hope this format gets more attention! Of course, if there are any items specific to your plant, I'll email or call you directly.
I hope you like this new format, and feel free to email me back any comments!

New Permit Training - Webinars & Live Sessions!
We'll be conducting several training sessions regarding the new NJPDES concrete stormwater permit, to go over the new permit changes and requirements, new sampling & monitoring, new SWP3, etc. There will be 3 opportunities for this training - two webinars (Monday March 2nd & Friday March 6th), as well as one "live" session for those who prefer not to do the webinar format. The live session will be far more in-depth, so it might be recommended to do a webinar AND attend the live session. I will also be recording one of the webinars, which can be viewed later at your convenience whenever you have the time. Remember, annual training is required by your stormwater permit!
The live session will be held on Friday, March 20th (8:30 am to 12:30 pm) at the Lanoka Harbor Fire House, located on Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor, NJ. There is no cost to clients, and refreshments (coffee and donuts) will be provided.
Please begin the process by letting me know if you intend to attend the live training session on Friday 3/20, and how many from your company will be attending. Hurry, space is limited! If you're going to attend, click here to email Doug Ruhlin to confirm your attendance.
More details on these training sessions to follow!

Sampling Deadlines
The first quarter 2009 is about 1/2 way through. For those of you who are "discharges to surface water", you know that you have to get your first quarter sample before the end of March. DON'T WAIT until the end of the quarter. Recall that from this point on, you only have to monitor for pH (doing it yourself?), TSS, and COD. "Discharges to groundwater" facilities (or those with both surface water and groundwater discharges), recall that you will begin monitoring April 1st, so we still have some time. Attend one of the training courses to learn more about monitoring. Also - remember - NO ONE has to do rainfall pH anymore...you still have to do the pH of your discharge sample (ie, the one from your outfall), but not the rainfall collected in a bucket! Don't waste your time with this anymore! |
DMR Forms
Along with getting your samples, remember to forward your SIGNED DMR/WCR forms to RMA as soon as possible each quarter. You can send them to us as soon as you receive them, you don't have to wait until you get your samples! Also, PLEASE sign, print your name, enter your telephone number, etc. on the bottom of each form, and DO NOT check the box for "comments" (we'll do that IF it's necessary, which it often isn't). If you find any problems with your forms, or don't get them promptly during each quarter, let us know ASAP! Also - don't forget - EVERY TIME you send us a sample, you MUST include a completed "Stormwater Monitoring Event Record Form" and "Certified Lab pH Data Form" (if you are a certified pH lab) along with the data from your outside lab. If you don't recall what these forms are, or don't have copies, you can get them from the "Clients Only" access area on the RMA website (see below). And, when you do send us your paperwork, please do not send us your chain-of-custody forms, or the entire pH worksheets. YOU need them - we don't!

Available Materials on RMA Website
The RMA website includes a "clients only" area meant for YOU! It includes pre-recorded webinars that you can view at your leisure (along with your employees - providing documentable training for all!), as well as most forms you might need for stormwater work and lots more information. There's even a short training session (on the home page) on how to sign up for the clients only area. Why haven't you signed up yet?

SPCC Plans?? Do you know what an SPCC plan is? (hint - it's NOT a stormwater plan!) It IS required by any concrete facility that stores > 1,320 gallons of ANY petroleum product (eg, diesel, gasoline, motor oil, lube oils, etc.) in any sized container down to 55-gallon size. The NJDEP and the USEPA have begun inspecting for these (there are penalties for not having them). Do you need one? Do you have one? I am making it my personal goal to get all necessary concrete facilities up to speed with this program this year. Contact me for more information.
