Greetings! | |
Inspired by one of my best friends, I've begun a running program called "Couch to 5K" (c25k). It's available through CoolRunning.com, and is designed to take one from being a couch potato (that would be me) to being able to run three miles comfortably (that would be my girl Tracy). So far I'm still in week one, just a babe in the process, but I'm determined to stick with it and see this thing through.
I decided to start the program for a couple of reasons, of course with a desire to be healthier at the top of the list. I have an underlying motivator too, though. I've not seen Trace in several years (she lives in Illinois), but she's coming to visit in August and we're spending a few days at the ocean. My goal is for us to be able to run together on the beach, so I'm beginning my training now to make that possible (five months ought to do it, right?)
Here's why she's my inspiration: three or four years ago, Trace began the c25k program. She was overweight and out of shape and had never exercised consistently in her life, but she struggled through and has been consistent with her running ever since. She's now a healthy weight and more active than most people I know. When I grow up I wanna be just like her.

In preparation for the program, I hit up Olympia Sports and bought the best, most comfortable running shoes I could find. They weren't cheap, but I figured that the investment would help me to stay committed. I also spent some time finding a podcast with just the right music to take on my runs. I signed up with dailymile.com and use it to keep track of my routes, mileage and times so I can monitor my progress. I'm forming a new routine of getting up earlier so that I can get the run done first thing I the morning (knowing that if I wait until after work, it probably won't happen).
Although this is my personal ambition, I am not doing it alone. The store manager at Olympia worked with me to find the best shoe for my running habits, offering just the right amount of cushion and stability. My friends and running partners at dailymile.com offer constant encouragement and support, and Trace advises me each day as she hears about my training and how my body is responding. Although it's my body out there logging the miles, I feel as though I have all of these wonderful people joining me on my journey to fitness. They offer much needed wisdom and encouragement, cheering me on consistently.
Regardless of what we're doing, isn't it easier when we have the support of others to guide us and help us stay focused? At Mason & Mason, we're happy to be part of the team that helps you hit the ground running. IMPORTANT RESPONSE TIPS AFTER AN ACCIDENT |
Very few people are prepared to face a traffic accident; however, many people will be involved in one at some point during their lives. While some are minor, others are severe and require appropriate action. Even the most careful drivers may experience an accident due to the poor driving skills of others. The best way to be prepared is to know how to respond at the scene. People who know what to do can save lives. In addition to this, preparedness makes the claims process simpler.
If an accident happens, take the following steps...

| HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE & SOCIAL GATHERINGS |
Many homeowners enjoy throwing parties for holidays or special events. If a party is in the near future, be sure that your individual Homeowners coverage is adequate. Guests who are injured might need to file an injury claim if their vehicle is damaged, if they fall down or if a pet bites them. Research shows that about 75% of adult homeowners who plan social gatherings in their homes do not have a personal umbrella policy. This makes them more vulnerable to lawsuits stemming from guests who suffer injuries. The same research study showed that the remainder of the homeowners surveyed did not know what type of coverage they had. This means it is likely that the percentage of homeowners who do not have adequate coverage is more than 75%. However, they should have this extra coverage to protect themselves from lawsuits. Although dog bites and falls are common, alcohol is one liability issue that is often overlooked but is very risky.
Alcoholic drinks are viewed as a way to relax and enjoy socializing. However, there is one sobering fact that many homeowners who plan to serve these drinks should know. In 30 states...

| HOMEOWNERS POLICIES AND JEWELRY |
After receiving valuable jewelry, it's important to contact an insurance agent immediately. It's important to keep in mind that most Homeowners policies place limitations on coverage for personal valuable items. This means that owners of these valuable items might not receive the full value if any of the items are stolen or lost. As a general rule, most Homeowners policies provide coverage for possessions up to 50% of the total coverage amount chosen. This means that a person who has a $600,000 policy would enjoy coverage as much as $300,000. However, most policies place limitations on certain types of personal belongings. For example, a policy provider may offer to cover $1,500 or more for all jewelry if theft occurs or the jewelry is damaged. There are several other categories of personal belongings that have limited reimbursement terms. Firearms, stamps, furs, coins and silverware are examples of such items. Homeowners should be sure to read the section of their Homeowners policies regarding contents and additional coverage. It's important to remember that accidental loss is not usually covered. This means that...
