PROTECTING YOUR BUSINESS FROM NATURAL DISASTERS WITH A DISASTER RECOVERY PLAN

Natural Disaster Of the U.S. companies that are victim to a man-made or natural disaster, the Contingency Planning Research Strategic Corporation says 43% never reopen their doors and 29% are out of business within the following two years. A study by Touche Ross found that companies without a disaster recovery plan only have a 10% or less survival rate. Business owners should be seriously asking themselves whether or not they have an adequate recovery plan for disasters. There are three crucial areas that all disaster recovery plans should cover:

1. Physical Resources. Of course, the physical assets of a business, such as equipment, electronics, office furniture, and the building itself, are things that usually can't be quickly or easily replaced if they're damaged during a disaster. The following are questions that an adequate disaster recovery plan should answer...

Starting Point

Roughly 15 years ago a fragile petite blonde sat in a crumpled heap on the courthouse steps. The dark hollows under her eyes told of sleepless nights. The worry was etched across her face in lines that belonged on a woman twice her age, not this 26-year old girl. Her tear-stained cheeks were red from wiping away the salty stream, and yet her mind was even more of a mess than her disheveled appearance.

Does he love me?

Is this normal?

It's just me, right? He'd never touch the kids... would he?

Can I make it on my own?

No one else will ever want me anyway... should I really leave?

Am I worth anything at all?

Is it really THAT bad?

The counselor had a calming effect on her, speaking in soothing words, and while she was firm in her advice, never once did she come across as pushy or forceful. The facts were laid out - of the 23 warning signs of an abusive relationship, 21 applied to her situation. Yes... it really was that bad.

Thankfully, this young woman crossed paths with the advocates of Starting Point, and got out of a dangerous situation before it was too late. One more life, rescued from the wreckage... saved.

I am so excited to share with you that M&M is launching a campaign to raise awareness and also funding for Starting Point, an agency that provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. Our Facebook page currently has 370 "likes". From now until August 12th, we will be donating $2 to Starting Point for every new "like" our page receives. The work they do is important... SO important.  So please... let's come together and help this agency that does so much for those who are at a point where they just can't help themselves. WHY AN ANNUAL BUSINESS INSURANCE REVIEW IS CRUCIAL TO YOUR EVOLVING BUSINESS   Paperwork

Most new business owners are concerned that everything is favorable for the success and safety of their business, which includes obtaining the protection of business insurance. However, longevity and success can cause complacency. Let's say you started your business 10 years ago with just a small space and computer desk. Today, you have an office full of employees and equipment. Do you still have the same insurance policies from 10 years ago? If so, you might not realize how under-insured you have become. Business owners need to review their business insurance programs annually. Errors happen and circumstances change, even when policies were initially obtained with care and caution. Without yearly examinations, substantial expense and risk can ensue. It's common for small businesses to start out with basic insurances, such as Commercial Property and General Liability policies. However, as they evolve, most find they need other types of insurance, such as...

DON'T END UP IN COURT BECAUSE YOUR EMPLOYEES ARE DATING Couple

In the modern workplace, men and women work together for eight or ten hours a day - sometimes even longer. When people spend that much time together, it's not surprising that occasional romances will bloom. Many people have met their spouses at work. Unfortunately, workplace romances don't always have happy endings. When a couple in an office breaks up, the atmosphere can become uncomfortable... sometimes even hostile. Productivity can suffer as the ex-partners feud with each other. More serious, in some cases the firm might have a significant financial exposure when love goes wrong.

Relationships between two people of equal position in the company might not be cause for concern, but romances involving supervisors and their subordinates can expose the company to legal liability. Workers outside the relationship might detect favoritism toward the subordinate when he or she receives pay raises, promotions, or other desired rewards. Conversely, if the couple breaks up, the subordinate might be sensitive to any actions that smack of retaliation. In the worst cases, the subordinate could decide he or she is a victim of sexual harassment and take legal action against the company. The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission received almost 12,000 complaints of sexual harassment in 2010. Almost 30% of these...
