A Plastic Surgeon's Perspective:
An Alternative to Rhinoplasty:
The Natural, Non-Surgical 'Nose-Job'

With BeautyScoop, I am committed to improving one's overall inner health and beauty.  And, as a plastic surgeon, I am equally committed to enhancing one's external beauty.  Integrative beauty is achieved when there is a harmonious alignment of inner and outer beauty.

While eating a healthy diet, sleeping well, getting regular exercise and enjoying warm, balanced and loving relationships are critical factors that contribute to overall beauty, they simply may not be enough to cover up an unappealing physical feature.  For example, a broken, crooked, protruding nose will not be any less obvious with a better diet, more sleep or exercise.    When the mirror reflects an incongruity between the way you look and the way you feel, and you search for refinement or repair, but are unwilling or unable to consider a surgical solution, here is another option for you!

In many instances, the tip of the nose, nostrils and dorsum (the backbone of the nose), can be corrected precisely and immediately by injections of filler.  The type of filler will be determined by your physician and is dependent, in part, on the area or subunit of your nose that is involved.  The nose can be divided into thirds (three subunits):  the top third is comprised of the nasal bones; the middle and lower thirds of cartilage.

Irregularities in the top third of the nose can be corrected by fillers made from a paste of calcium hydroxyapetite (i.e. Radiesse) - the same natural material used for hip and knee replacements.  For example, bumps and shifts can be minimized and/or straightened.

Asymmetries in the lower two-thirds of the nose can be corrected with fillers that are comprised of hyaluronic acid - a naturally occurring sugar molecule found normally in the body. (i.e.  Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Prevelle Silk).  For example, discrepancies in nostril rim height can be made symmetrical and tip irregularities can be corrected and/or camouflaged.

Non-surgical 'nose-jobs' are not only less invasive, but they also provide immediate results.  Since no hospital or facility fee is required, they are also much more affordable.  If you have been waiting for an alternative to rhinoplasty, fillers may offer a natural, non-surgical option.

Ted GibsonInterview with Celebrity Hairstylist, Ted Gibson

1.  What are the three most common hair concerns for women over 40?
The three most common concerns are loss of hair, textural changes associated with the emergence of gray hair, and inability to grow hair to the same length.

2.  What are your favorite topical products for combating winter dryness and static?  I have my own product line, so to combat frizz and static electricity, and to restyle between shampoos, I recommend Goodnight Replenishing Hair Serum for the scalp and hair, and Hair Sheet Styling.

3.  Do you have any suggestions about how to pick a hair style that is best for one's face?
A talented hairdresser can definitely be the best source for individual advice.  In general, there are some guidelines, like "short hairstyles work best with a long neck" and "bangs work best to camouflage a large forehead".

4.  What role do you believe ingestible beauty products and nutritional supplements like BeautyScoop play in overall hair health and beauty?   I know that vitamins and nutrients that you take inside the body can help to make hair longer, stronger and thicker!
