Beauty Break Newsletter
June 2009
BeautyScoop packet
Greetings!

Get ready to usher in the summer with the upcoming solstice! Longer days and warmer weather generally mean more outdoor activities and a healthier lifestyle for most of us.  As we wear less and eat less, we focus more on our overall health and beauty!

In the recent past issues, Dr. Yagoda addressed (in succession) each of our own natural beauty accessories - our skin, hair and nails!  In this issue, she circles back to the topic of integrative beauty as she offers a plastic surgeon's perspective on Dysport - the newly FDA-approved Botox alternative!  When exercise, diet and a good night's sleep are no longer enough, here's an option that may be just what the doctor prescribes!

Also in this issue, check out our fabulous interview with Eva Longoria's personal stylist, Robert Verdi.  He dishes on the hottest 2009 Summer trends and explains why he believes that fashion and style play an integral role in a woman's overall beauty.

This month, join us in congratulating recipe-of-the-month contest winner, Lisa Parker from Tampa, Florida!  Her delicious "Watermelon Summer Splash"  was chosen (see recipe below) in a taste test by our team of judges.  Remember that when you share your favorite BeautyScoop beauty break recipe, we will automatically enter you into our monthly drawing to win your free box of BeautyScoop!

Lastly, we thank all of our loyal fans for your continued support and want to be the first to tell you our exciting news... Despite the downturn in the economy, BeautyScoop will be traveling to the UK this summer
Watch for the invite to our exclusive launch at one of the UK's most famous luxury retailers.  We hope you (if you are traveling) and your friends in the UK will join us in the celebration!

A Plastic Surgeon's Perspective:
Dysport - the newly FDA-Approved Botox Alternative

DR. MICHELLE YAGODA,
NYC FACIAL PLASTIC SURGEON, AND CO-FOUNDER OF BEAUTYSCOOP

External beauty is certainly a reflection of internal health and wellness, but a healthy diet, regular exercise and a good night's sleep may often play second fiddle to genetics.  Embedded in your very DNA, no matter how hard you might try to fight it, is the code that predicts your face's future!  When exercise, diet and restful sleep is no longer enough, consider adding Dysport, the newly FDA approved Botox alternative, to your comprehensive anti-aging regimen!

Furrows in the brow are simply the result of repetitive facial muscle movements and may be completely unrelated to the perceived signs of exhaustion, anger, stress and worry.  Dysport, can refresh your appearance by diminishing these brow lines and the lines around the eyes that are commonly known as Crows' feet. Here's what you need to know about Dysport:

- Dysport (abobotulinumtoxin A) is a neuromuscular blocking agent that temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe lines in the brow in people under the age of 65 for up to four months.

- It is not to be used in pregnant women, nursing mothers, children or the geriatric population.

- It should not be administered to people with allergy to cow's milk protein.

- Injections should not be done more than every three months.

- Since the dosage is not interchangeable with that of Botox ~ use caution with injections!

- Adverse reactions occur in less than 2% of people and include headache, eyelid swelling and upper eyelid drooping.

- Even more rarely, Dysport can cause double vision and/or blurred vision.

Dr. Yagoda has no commercial affiliation with Dysport or Botox but welcomes Dysport as a Botox competitor and expects that the competition will lead to more economical pricing and greater accessibility.

At the Crossroads of Style and Beauty:  Tips from Celebrity Stylist, Robert Verdi

1. What roles do fashion and style play in a woman's overall beauty?
Style is a tool that when used correctly can enhance a woman's overall beauty.  Fashion is a weapon that women use to enhance aspects of their beauty that they like, and conceal aspects of their beauty that they don't like.

2.  If you could recommend one single "must have" item for Summer 2009, what would it be and why?
A big straw hat, (think Audrey Hepburn)... sun protection is really important in maintaining healthy skin and there is something mysteriously stylish and sexy about a woman who is brave enough to make such an impactful fashion statement.

 3. How important are accessories?
Accessories are the elements of fashion that define a woman's unique style. Every woman has a little black dress, but the individual touch that defines her style becomes the difference between the red patent clutch and the black tote bag or the choice of the chandelier earring verses the pearl stud.  The accessory is the choice that ultimately celebrates a woman's individuality.

4. BeautyScoop is called an edible beauty accessory ~ Do you believe it is one?  If so, why?
Yes!  Your hair and skin are your important beauty "accessories".  The scientific facts prove that BeautyScoop adds luster to your hair and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles in your skin.

Robert Verdi's name is synonymous with style.  He is one of the most highly recognizable people in the world of fashion and as a lifestyle expert, his opinions often become popular culture.  Design denizens adore his eye for color, homemakers hail his quick fixes for fixer-uppers and fashion experts cling to the edge of their front row seats during fashion shows.  Initially a jewelry designer displaying his wares at Barneys, Bendels, Bloomies and Berdorfs, he is perhaps best known as Eva Longoria's (Desperate Housewives) stylist.  Recognized for his roles as TV host on Full Frontal Fashion, Fashion Poilce, Surprise by Design, and She's Got the Look, he frequently appears as an expert on The View, Regis and Kelly, TODAY, CNN Headline News and VH1's Fabulous LIves.
