In Search of Fabulous Skin...
DR. MICHELLE YAGODA, FACIAL PLASTIC SURGEON OFFERS 5 TIPS TO MINIMIZE WINTER DRYNESS...
1. Cleanse your face once daily in the evening to remove all make-up, dirt and environmental pollutants. In the morning, simply splash with water to refresh skin and lock in moisture.
2. Drink plenty of water. Remember, caffeine and alcohol can be dehydrating. Moderation is key!
3. Limit the use of scrubs and products with glycolic, retinoic, or salicylic acid to once or twice per week.
4. Restrict the number of in-office peels to once every 4-6 weeks unless your doctor advises more to treat a particular problem.
5. Select a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid as it is the most effective hydrating agent currently on the market.

Tips from NYC Nutritionist, & owner of FoodTrainers & Mindful Menus
Lauren Slayton, M.S., R.D.
As a nutritionist, whenever clients ask me which skincare lines I recommend, I always remind them to look at their diets. Skin and hair care certainly isn't limited to topical products. BeautyScoop is a perfect example of this. For just 91 calories, BeautyScoop offers both a visit to a dermatologist and a nutritionist in one scoop.
There are a few standouts for me on the BeautyScoop label. First, I was happy to learn that the safflower oil used is high oleic safflower oil. High oleic safflower oil is a 'good fat' and good for our bodies in that it has anti-inflammatory properties.
In terms of protein, BeautyScoop provides 6 grams which is similar to what you would get in 1 ounce of nuts or cheese or an egg. The protein comes from soy and whey protein. Whey protein is a dairy protein, but many people who have issues with dairy do not experience problems with whey. The other dairy protein, casein, is the frequent offender, while whey is safe. Whey is great for your skin and also great for your immune system.
It may come as a surprise that I love the concept of beauty cocktails, but if you are going to imbibe, (and for many of my clients this is non-negotiable), why not 'up the ante' and add some nutrients.
Overall: BeautyScoop is a clever, novel product that would compliment any healthy diet. Lauren Slayton MS RD received her Masters degree in clinical nutrition from New York University. Lauren then worked at St Lukes Roosevelt's obesity research unit and counseled clients at the Motivation Center Inc. Prior to starting Foodtrainers Lauren was a staff nutritionist at Equinox fitness clubs, where she focused on weight management and sports nutrition. Lauren is on the advisory board of the Leukemia Society's Team in Training and periodically conducts sports nutrition lectures for the organization. Lauren has written and been quoted in articles for many websites, magazines and television programs including: Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Cooking Light, Harper's Bazaar, Quest, Hamptons, Self, Fitness, Dance Spirit, Working Mother, WebMD, The New York Post, John Stewart's Daily Show, ABC's Eyewitness News,The Early Show, Fox News, CBS's Inside Fitness with Bonnie Kaye and Supermarket Savvy. www.foodtrainers.com
