Who is Jesus? |
Many Christians seem to be clear on who Jesus Christ is. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Or, he is the Son of God who came into the world to redeem us from sin and/or serve as the truest "incarnate Way" for us to create and nurture our relationship with God.
The "cloud" on the left offers a few descriptive terms for The One that we proclaim as Lord
A recent Rasmussen Reports poll suggests that 82% of the people who completed a telephone survey believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. What's interesting though, just slightly over half of the participants indicated that they would actually attend church services to celebrate Christ's resurrection. Is it possible to believe in Jesus without actively participating in the Church's life?
Here's something else to ponder. A recent Pew Forum On Religion and Public Life
study indicated that 55% of the people in Ohio think that religion is important while only 58% of the participants indicated that they prayed once a day or more. Can we follow Jesus without a devoted prayer life?
Peter is quite clear in this coming Sunday's gospel who he believes Jesus to be.

Jesus and Peter |
We might find St. Peter to be somewhat hasty in his faith. He's nonetheless more than willing to claims his beliefs in broad day light and out loud with any sign of fear or trepidation.
Episcopalians, along with other Christians can sometimes be a little shy or hesitant to proclaim our faith in the Risen Christ. Unquestionably though, our faith as Anglicans, more so than almost any other Christian denomination, is shaped by how we pray and worship. Our trust in Jesus' resurrection and continual presence in our lives shouldn't stop at the door on Sunday afternoon.
It's terrific for me to begin creating my relationships with each and all of you through our common worship and Sunday celebrations of the Eucharist. There was some lively energy in the house last Sunday. Let's continue to praise our relationships with Jesus Christ, one another, and the people in the world around us this coming Sunday! Until then -- I offer you -- Blessings Along The Way - Jim+
