Welcome to Variety Children's Charity of
 Northern California

Dear Friends:

We know you recognize the seriousness of the current environment and we are extremely grateful for your commitment and generosity in the face of the economic crisis. We want you to know that Variety has taken important steps to ensure our stability and ability to continue to serve our clients.

First, we secured a matching grant so that the impact of your contributions will be doubled.  Second, we plan to bring up to 4 new members onto our Board of Directors this Spring, and third, we have asked Red-Ember, Inc. to help with our board development. They are leadership development experts who offer a unique combination of real-world experience and results-oriented executive coaching and business consulting that increase human productivity.

We don't slow down when times get tough. Instead we redouble our efforts by sharing our vision.  This year we aren't taking anything for granted and will carefully count our blessings as we remain optimistic about the future.

Yours in partnership,

Ellen
Reading to Kids
As part of our Kids on the Go! social mobility program, Variety partners with a number of community organizations, including BookPals and the Monument Crisis Center (mentioned in the Bowling with Teens article). This partnership expands Variety's outreach into the community and our positive impact with Northern California families.

Each year Variety buys Dr. Seuss books for BookPals to distribute to shelters and underserved public schools.  Our relationship with Book Pals goes back almost a decade.   Last year we joined forces with Book Pals to read in local schools and shelters.  We have several donors reading throughout the city weekly.  On Monday nights Variety volunteers to read-a-loud to kids who live at the Hamilton Family Shelter on Golden Gate Ave.

As part of Variety's ongoing partnership with community agencies, we recently spent an adfternoon with the youth group from the Monument Crisis Center in Concord. The energy and enthusiasm of the kids was amazing. They are actively working to improve their lives and it was an honor to host them for an afternoon of bowling.
