Welcome to Variety Children's Charity of Northern California
Dear Friends:
With today's news full of heavy topics around the economy and politics, we're very pleased to share a softer and more uplifting story with you. Through the generous support of our members we were able to change the lives of two special children. As always we thank you for your involvement. |

Program Update
Kids on the Go!
Mobility Program: On Saturday, October 4th, Variety was able to make a difference in the lives of two beautiful children and their parents. Marco and Caro are siblings who have Cerebral Palsy and are bound to being in wheelchairs. They live in the East Bay and cannot walk and were never expected to pedal a bicycle on their own. At BORP's Revolution 08 bicycle event for disabled kids Variety presented the Blanco family with their adaptive bike. Marco rode tandem with his Dad (his Dad pedaling in the back while Marco was strapped in the front) and his sister Caro who sat on the new bike that her mother pushed. During the photo session at the after-party (at Trentadue Winery in Sonoma County) Marco sat on his new bike. While sitting on the bike he realized that with a small amount of movement with his legs that his bike could move - on his own. You know that old saying "a photo speaks a thousand words"? Well it really comes alive in the photos. It was a surprising, happy and emotional day to see this family's life transformed by their new bike.
Variety's Board of Directors would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Judi and Gordon Harris, Milton Mosk and Tom Foutch and Lazy Bear Weekend for contributing to the purchase of adaptive bikes for our children and their families.

A summer fundraiser that spans three days, ascends on the Russian River town of Guerneville and distributes more then $150,000 to HIV/AIDS organizations as well as a few select others. Gold Hearts: US Variety's 2007 Gold Heart and AMC's summer camp funds arrived in our office this week. We received a total of $51,000. Gold Heart 2008 opens in November with the sale of Madagascar 2 pins from Paramount . Watch for the pins in local theaters and our own Screening Room.
Capital Campaign: Variety is successfully raising funds by calling previous donors and talking with them about their support. It's been a great chance to engage in meaningful dialogue. Thank you to everyone who has spent time on the phone with us.
Plan your next event at the
Screening Room!
Recently the League of Women's Voters rented the Screening Room for a symposium for candidates running for Congress in Jackie Speier's 12th District. Eric Thomas from ABC was the moderator and the event was filmed by ABC. The Screening Room is owned and operated by Variety Children's Charity, a nonprofit organization serving the needs of children throughout Northern California.
