"Don't Bother Me Mom, I'm Learning" We featured Marc Prensky's book entitled "Don't Bother Me Mom, I'm Learning" in our December newsletter. Jody Oliver, a project specialist for CTAP, a California Department of Education grant-funded division that exists all
over California, submitted her summary of the book. Thanks Jody!
We are especially interested in books about the "paradigm shift" in education, and this one certainly looks worth checking out!

Jody writes: "A must read for every parent and educator of any child pre-K through college!
Marc Prensky shares his philosophy of the gaming industry as it relates to
today's "digital native" student. He "talks" with you through this book not so
much as to convince you but in stating the facts.
After personally meeting Mr.
Prensky, hearing him present, and seeing him interact with students in the
process of "collecting" his data, his book became a research-based strategy on
today's student. His book explains how kids are not like we were back in school
and shares a detailed look at the advantages for students in our 21st Century
world.
As a teacher for over twenty years, his dialogue with students, his
perspective on "edutainment", and how we can begin to reach a new engaging and
interactive dimension with our kids creates a paradigm shift necessary for
education today."

What If Your Wireless Tablet...
|
...was a full-size whiteboard wrapped up in a tiny little tablet that
keeps you "working" the room and keeping everyone involved?
...had a color LCD panel which showed you all the CPS data that you want to
know on the spot, like which students are missing questions and which
are getting them right?
...was comfortable to hold - light, with an ergonomic design that provided lots of handholds?
...could run at the same time as up to 100 tablets in the room, perfect for cooperative learning in your classroom?
...was an incredible value compared to other wireless tablets and a MUCH cheaper option than a
full-size whiteboard or a whiteboard capture bar...with a price of $399?
We'd love to introduce you to eInstruction's new Mobi, the unparalleled tablet on the market today!
You can purchase a Mobi package consisting of a teacher Mobi and 2 learner Mobi's (LCD panel does not activate) with a Mobi dock (portable charging station) for only $1199 plus shipping!
So, for the price of ONE full-size whiteboard, the Mobi package allows you to outfit THREE individual classrooms with a wireless tablet OR bring the pads together for collaboration with eInstruction's multiuser software!

DualBoard Rises Above the Crowd
The DualBoard uses the same Workspace 8.0 software as the Mobi,
allowing students to work simultaneously at the front of the room and
can be actively combined with multiple Mobi's to allow even more
classroom collaboration.
Just as with the Mobi, teachers can select from a "Sandbox" mode or "Split Screen"
mode, providing multiple ways for the class to collaborate around
digital lesson materials. The Sandbox mode allows students to work in
the same area of the display, while the Split Screen mode lets the
teacher to assign each student to a separate portion of the display
area.
We
have yet to see an end to all of the possibilities for these features.
Classroom collaboration just got that much easier and that much more
fun!
Feel Like You're Missing Out? Were
you the first teacher in your building to get an Interwite board and
now you're feeling let out and wishing you had a Dual Board? Follow these simple instructions and you
still can!
- Download your free version of the new Workspace 8.0.
- Purchase a new RF converter.
- Purchase new pens.
This upgrade will be about $300 but well worth the cost!

Great Websites for Interactive Activities
- Our daughter's class does centers for reading and spelling. Wouldn't students have fun sitting down with the tablet at their center and playing Hangman
and doing a word search? What a fun way to boost vocabulary and spelling skills! This Hangman game has great graphics and would be lots of fun to do as a class with the teacher leading. Older students will enjoy playing Hangman with the chemistry elements, and this site even posts high scores! Word Duck
- Our son's class did a unit on landforms. What better way to have students identify landforms than on actual 3D and photographic tours featuring park geology and natural history? Geology of National Parks
- This website sponsored by the University of Houston, allowing filled with a lot of text, does have some neat resources for teaching American History. I really liked the collection of maps, some from the 15th century. These can easily be imported to your gallery in Workspace 8.0. There is also an interactive timeline of the United States that is a neat interactive activity. Digital History
- This images of snowflakes taken by a specially designed snowflake photo-electron microscope are not only interesti
ng, but a great way to show symmetry in nature. Have your students use the tablet to draw the line of symmetry on these cool images! Snowflake Symmetry
