Barron Financial Group Sponsors WOW! Forum,

and Offers Finance Seminar for Women

On Thursday, October 4, Barron Financial Group will offer a seminar designed to help women address financial issues. Entitled 'Women, Investing & Behavioral Finance,' the free seminar will be presented at the Warner Theater, 68 Main Street, Torrington, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Barron Financial Group recently chose to serve as a premier sponsor of the WOW! Forum, Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce's Professional Women's Conference. Managing Partner James Thibault said holding the seminar is in sync with the forum's goals of supporting and empowering women in the workplace. "Over time, women have become an important part of our practice," said Thibault. "The seminar is designed to provide information that can help women become more empowered in their financial decision making."

The event will begin with a reception with refreshments from 5 to 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning immediately afterward. Topics will include an overview of behavioral finance, which is the study of social, cognitive and emotional factors that can prevent investors from following a path of rational behavior. It will also detail factors in how men and women approach finance differently, and effects on investing. In addition, specific investing concerns for women and strategies to address those concerns will be discussed.

Previous seminars Thibault has presented locally include Financial Planning Workshop for Women, Retirement Planning, College Strategies and Retirement in Today's World. He said each presentation downplays industry jargon to frame financial planning issues in terms that minimize confusion.

"We've found that people tend to shy away from learning about financial planning if the discussion is filled with industry-specific terms," said Thibault. "This seminar uses a plain-spoken approach in an overview of issues that are beneficial in planning a woman's financial future."
