Legislative Update

May 8, 2012
Greetings!

The 97th General Assembly Spring 2012 session continues to be relatively inactive with regards to IMRF pension legislation.

Continue to check the IMRF website for updates on pending legislation.
Quinn's pension proposals do not include IMRF

The governor's proposals to address the state's $83 billion in unfunded pension liability do not include IMRF.

IMRF is not funded by the state of Illinois. At the end of 2011, IMRF was 83% funded on an actuarial basis.

2012 IMRF Board of Trustees Springfield Drive-Down a success

As it does each year, on April 25th, the IMRF Board of Trustees gathered in Springfield to discuss IMRF face-to-face with members of the Illinois General Assembly.

While in Springfield, Board members met with members of the House and Senate Pension Committees -- as well as their own local legislators -- to explain IMRF and to share IMRF's message of being locally funded and financially sound.

This year, they were also able to meet with members of leadership in the General Assembly, including Speaker Madigan, President Cullerton, and Leader Radogno.

It was a successful event and
Board members heard many positive comments about IMRF from legislators.
