How to contact your legislators Let your legislators know what you think
If you support or oppose any proposed legislation (IMRF or otherwise), you can call or contact your Illinois Legislators and let them know.
If you don't know who your legislators are, you can find your legislator's name or address at the Illinois Board of Elections web site. By entering your street address and zip code, you will get a listing of your legislators' names with links to their mailing address. In some cases, an email address is provided.
Whether you do it in person, by phone, or in writing, communication on a regular basis is the key to good relations with public officials. Here are some tips on making your contact more effective.

Legislation introduced during a General Assembly Each General Assembly session lasts for two years and begins in odd-numbered years. 2012 sees the continuation of the 97th General Assembly, which began in January 2011.
While bills introduced during 2011 are technically not considered "dead" until a General Assembly ends, it is unlikely that bills introduced last year will see movement during 2012. However, the content of these bills can be re-introduced (with new bill numbers) during 2012.
The "Pending Legislation" page on our website will show you the most recently introduced IMRF-related legislation, and when a bill has been passed by one or both chambers.
Remember: thousands of bills are introduced during each General Assembly session--and most of them never become law, or are even acted on by the Legislature. |
