Outstanding Contribution Award (OCA), and the Distinguished Service Award (DSA)- Applications
|
|
The ariZoni Theatre Awards of Excellence is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for the Outstanding Contribution Award (OCA), and the Distinguished Service Award (DSA). Please refer to the guidelines in this letter when submitting nominees for any of these categories.
The Outstanding Contribution Award honors an individual from within the theatre community who has served in a profound way through personal investment of time, energy, vision and talent. This award can be bestowed upon administrators, directors, writers, producers, designers, actors, technicians, volunteers, support staff, or any individual involved in theatre who has made a considerable impact on theatre throughout the entire valley.
The Distinguished Service Award honors an individual, corporation, or organization outside the established theatre community that has contributed either financially or non-traditionally, in support of local theatre, and its further recognition, security and growth in the Valley. The recipient needs to have impacted many and all types of theatres.
Applications for both of these awards are available on the website (Click here).
We hope that you will take the time to recognize someone in the
community who has helped your theatre and many others find success.
For questions or further information visit our website at www.arizoniawards.com, or contact Awards Chairperson Karen at karolston@cox.net or 480-756-3828.
All applications must be received by August 15, 2012.

Message from the President - Julie Holston
A student skipped my Intro to Theatre class today to go see a play. She emailed me in advance to let me know that she was planning to do this. Her rationale was that she was late turning in a play critique and this was the only time she could find to attend a play. She figured seeing the play was more important than sitting through class. And I can't say I would argue with her logic. While participating in class is, of course, important-I maintain that participating in theatre itself will always teach someone more about theatre than any class can. I'm grateful that we have such a rich theatrical community to draw upon for all kinds of experiences-as practitioners, as educators, as students, and as audience members.
I am proud to be serving in my new capacity as ariZoni Board President, having previously served as Board Secretary and Chair of Adjudication Processes & Procedures. I first joined the ariZoni Board in the summer of 2008, and my primary focus was to help strengthen and regulate the adjudication process. I think it's safe to say that we have made quite a bit of progress in that area in the last three and a half years, along with making a number of strides in other areas, thanks to the work of our dedicated Board members, adjudicators, and participating theaters.
Speaking of the theaters (since you are the reason we exist!), we recently sent out our biennial (yes, that's the right word-I looked it up) survey and are pleased to have received such a wonderful response. Your thoughtful comments and feedback will really help in assessing our current procedures, allowing us to make changes according to your collective vision for the ariZoni Awards. We will be discussing some of our findings with you at the upcoming Annual Theatre Meeting, so mark your calendars for June 11 (location TBA.) We hope that every participating theater will have at least one representative in attendance. More info will follow in subsequent newZletters.
In addition to my new role as President, several Board members have taken on new roles as well, and we would like to welcome Chris Hamby and Joe Kremer to the Board. You will find a complete list of current ariZoni Board members in this newZletter and on our website: www.arizoniawards.org.
We would also like to wish a fond farewell to those Board members who have ended their tenure with the ariZoni Board and moved on to other endeavors: Greg Jaye, Julie Pelley, former Board Treasurer, and Eric Chapman, former Board President. Thank you for your years of service and dedication.
In this issue, please take note of our call for new and returning adjudicators to apply and attend training. Also please note our call for Scholarship and Awards nominees for the upcoming ceremony. This month marks the beginning of the busiest part of our season-from March through September-and on behalf of the new ariZoni Board of Directors, I am excited to be part of the show!
