Fall, la, la, la, la...

Yes, we realize that if you are between five and seventeen this time of year is "less than exciting". But quite honestly, we are happy to see the heat and humidity, the traffic and the crowds subside for another year!

To be sure, it was a strange start to summer. But once it got here, we certainly haven't seen it much busier. So busy, that at concert time two weekends ago, there was a noticable list to the island (if you missed out this year, the Boston Pops Concert at Jetties Beach is the highlight of the summer and must be booked early. Its not official yet, but plan on August 8, 2008)

But even though summer is coming to an end. That doesn't mean that Nantucket is closing up shop for the season. Not by a long shot! In fact, its a well known secret that September is the best month of the year to be stuck on this sandbar thirty miles out at sea.

Contrary to popular belief most everything stays open well into October. Sure there may be one less ferry trip here or there. And some restaurants will close early or even completely one night a week. So do your homework. (sorry kids) But as your reward, there are some great sales. Wonderful events and activities (where else can you try 15 versions of clam chowder on one day, in one spot?) And some great rate deals!

We'll be here until Sunday October 21, and then the crew at Nantucket Inn will dutifully mark the end of our 21th season. (Christmas will be too late) So make your plans to join us soon. It really is the most wonderful time of the year!

(fa, la, la, la, la!)

Indoor pool
When the cool fall winds begin to blow, its nice to know that we are the only hotel on the island with it's own indoor pool!

But that almost wasn't the case. Back in the 1980's, the original plans called for the hotel's only pool to be outdoors. The french doors that presently lead from the lobby bar into what we call the pool solarium, would have instead led outdoors to a patio area surrounding the pool.

We're still not sure what caused the last minute change -- but in looking back, it seems like a pretty smart move!

A Secret Fall Week in August!

Did you know that there is actually a "secret" fall week on Nantucket?

falling leavesYep! The week before Labor Day - August 26 - 30 is generally a quiet week!
Free of summer crowds and best of all, free of those pesky summer rates!
We noticed this change a few years back and actually decided to begin our fall rates early - as a reward to those that can travel that week!

So pack the kids off for school early and then give us a call - 800 321-8484 and book your Secret Fall date now!

Nantucket Restaurant Week
October 15 - 20, 2007

Constant Contact is a sneaky little program. It actually lets us see how many people click through on any particular link. We were a little surprised at the level of interest for the 2nd annual Nantucket Restaurant Week**when we mentioned it back in the May e-newsletter. (yeah, we know how many of you clicked the word link above too!)

So there's little disagreement that there are a disproportionally large number of great restaurants on Nantucket. But sampling all of them could take quite a bite out of your wallet. Which is exactly what Restaurant Week is designed to resolve. How does a three course dinner for just $45 sound? Lunch for $20?

Exactly. (yum

And when you are not otherwise gastronomically engaged, we have a great lodging deal for you as well! 2 nights for just $249* per couple. And that also includes Mom's Breakfast for two each morning! Need a few more nights to hit all your favorite restaurants? 3, 5 and even 7-night packages are also available.

So book your table and then book your room with us! Just call 800 321-8484 and ask about our Nantucket Restaurant Week special!

*valid 10/15-20, 2007 only; subject to tax and gratuity; not available to groups; limited number of rooms available at package rate

**unfortunately at email time, the NRW website was down...but fair to say that essentially every restaurant that is open in late October will be participating. Please bookmark www.nantucketrestaurantweek.com or email info@nantucketrestaurantweek.com for more information.
