Links, links and more links

Welcome!
We're glad you're here...yes, after some -- and we must admit -- amateurish attempts, we finally broke down and signed up for Constant Contact (free plug, it's great!) and are pleased to present you with our first e-newsletter.

So before we get too far along, lets set some ground rules. The reason you're here is because somewhere along the line you asked to be added to our email list. (Honest, you did!)We never, ever buy names and for that matter will never, ever sell yours. But if you don't want to be here...that's OK! There's a very easy feature right at the bottom of this page that lets you unsubscribe forever. BUT hold on! That link will always be there, so why not give us a shot and after a couple dozen attempts(?), if your not completely satisfied, then you can unsubscribe (and we'll refund your full purchase price! Wait a second...scratch that, this is free!)

What do you get from us? Well, lets face it, we want you to visit Nantucket and stay at the Nantucket Inn. (but you knew that as soon as you saw the "from" line). So consider this to be a gentle reminder. There will only be a newsletter every month or so. And with that, we will try to give you a little more insight into the island and maybe answer some common questions. When its warranted, we might send out some breaking news (we're dying to spill the beans on something now, but can't announce it yet!)Sometimes it might just be fun -- anyone want to meet my dog? And finally we want to give you first shot at "ROOMS ON SALE" -- dates where occupancy is pretty bleak and we just need some smiling faces around the place -- no matter what the rate!

There will always be a section on basic Nantucket Inn stuff. Our telephone number and current office hours, a link to the website and a way to request a brochure. We're not looking to be hard sell -- but you can! (check out the forward link at the bottom of the page).

...and we want your feedback! Tell us what you think! Are we missing the mark? Do you have a question that we should answer here?  How 'bout those Red Sox?

So without further ado...enjoy!

Just what do you do all winter?
The quiet time on Nantucket

Well, we wish we had a more exciting answer -- but the truth probably isn't much different than yours. Thankfully, it has been a fairly mild winter thus far (these pictures are from past years, click here for live web cams) but Nantucket is a real live working town, so snow or not, visitors or not, life goes on.

The kids go to school and play after-school sports -- they often fly special flights to Hyannis and then bus to away games. Our one movie theater seats about 75 people (buy tickets in advance on weekends) and shows the same feature for a couple days and then switches for a few days.

Both ferry lines -- the Hy-line and the Steamship Authority -- run, slightly limited winter service. The hourly commuter flights on Island Air and Nantucket Airlines continue as well. We even maintain fairly regular air service between Boston and New York -- on Cape Air and US Airways. All our supplies come from off-island, so if we do have any extended bad weather the bread aisle at Stop and Shop gets bare pretty fast! (Remind me to tell you about when the harbor freezes over......)

While we are blessed with a good variety of restaurants year 'round, sometimes the urge for Chinese food is just too great. The solution, place your order in Hyannis. Then for a "small" fee your order takes a taxi ride to the airport, it gets space on the next hourly flight and you pick it up at the airport. Easy, right?

Island life....we love it!

Plan your winter escape

No, the Nantucket Inn isn't available to host your visit right now (sorry! April 20). However, Nantucket can be a great winter escape -- uncrowded streets and beaches, the wonderful Whaling Museum and great sale shopping!

A quieter time at the Nantucket Inn

Here at the Nantucket Inn, we maintain regular office hours -- reservation lines are open!, hit the gym when so motivated, maybe a bite of dinner with friends (yes, Chinese occasionally) and a few hours of American Idol or 24.

(And of course, sneak in as much of our own vacations as the boss will allow!

But a big part of our winter days are spent getting things ready for the upcoming season. Just days after our fall closing, we begin the seasonal recruiting process (just three of us year 'rounders). We've completely painted the exterior of the property and replaced a whole load of windows. And we're in the process of picking new carpet for the dining room. (hopefully, something Mom likes!)  But the most exciting project of this winter, is the redecoration of all of our Oversized Double and King bedded rooms and the Cottage rooms.

When we reopen on April 20, these rooms
Redecoration sample boardwill feature new thicker style mattresses -- complete with pillow tops. And these comfy new beds will be fitted with comfy new quilted bedspreads along with new draperies, window and accents.

Our first group of seasonal employees will arrive back on island in mid-March (you didn't really think three of us did all this work ourselves) In addition to moving mattresses and hanging drapes, they'll be painting and fixing as well.

....and before you know it, another winter will be over. Believe me Spring is a bit of an adjustment. But a welcome one. And by the time the first daffodils pop open, the Nantucket Inn will be ready for another season....will you?

We look forward to welcoming you to Nantucket!
