Welcome Bob!
We have addeTrainer Bobd a new trainer to our family of fitness experts : Bob Gragg of Recovery Training. Bob has 5 years of fitness training experience, preceded by 34 years of high level tennis playing, teaching, and conditioning. During his time in tennis, Bob suffered a number of injuries, and went through a lot of physical therapy. He discovered that he had an aptitude for it, and more importantly, a passion. So, he decided to take a different direction with his career. He earned certifications as a Personal Trainer, Performance Enhancement Specialist, and Corrective Exercise Specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He now focuses on corrective exercise or functional training for people with injuries, chronic conditions, muscle imbalances, surgery, weight loss or other medical issues. Of course, he is happy to train perfectly healthy clients as well. Welcome, Bob!

A Bit About Breakfast
Was your mother correct in saying that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day"?

The answer is "yes".  Actually, we have no definitive research that absolutely proves that breakfast is essential. But we have lots and lots of "circumstantial" evidence and observational studies that point to the benefits of eating a good breakfast, as well as to the dangers of skipping it. Virtually all health experts accept that eating breakfast is the best course of action. I would liken it to the theory of evolution - not proven without a doubt, but accepted as fact by the vast majority of scientists.

So here are some points to consider about breakfast:
News Of The Month

StarSTAR OF THE MONTH is JG. He has lost 60# over the last 5 months on the Diet to Go program, which sends you frozen, heat-and-eat appropriately-portioned food. That worked for him because he was working 2 full time jobs at the time. Now he's down to one job, and he has exercised about 30 - 45 minutes a day since the first of the year. He was just taken off his blood pressure medications and he feels great! He will be featured in the Commercial Appeal in one of their regular Success Story articles later this month

Pat's husband (incorrigible) called from McDonalds during her workout to see if she or Trainer Gaye wanted anything. They said no. Pat is currently engaged in her annual pre-Mardi Gras damage control. Husband not so much!

AB lost 7 pounds in her first 2 weeks of Biometrics and strength training, which she added to her ongoing marathon training.

Last month's Stars PW & RW really proved their mettle - they went to the Southaven restaraunt that specializes in the Donut Burger - but they didn't get one!

BR has a new workout wardrobe courtesy of his wife. She didn't approve of his past choices - which admittedly once included a cashmere sweater. But he now puts Trainer Mike to shame with his splendor. Its not bad enough that everyone else has a better car than me, but now they're better dressed too!

MattP was early or on time almost all month!

Quote Corner

HF: "This exercise is really golfey!"

DB: "My program of aggressive rest seems to have improved my nagging injuries."

EW about Trainer Gaye: "She's sweet but she's mean!

NEW! Zumbatomic Class for 7-11 year olds

Start your kids off right on their fitness journey with dance fitness sensation Zumbatomic, coming to Healthy Habits! Designed for kids ages 7-11, this is a high energy, fun, kid appropriate, Latin inspired dance/fitness program for boys and girls. Zumbatomic originated from adult Zumba Fitness. With the epidemic of childhood obesity on the rise, Zumbatomic has become a very popular and effective way for boys and girls to get fit while having fun dancing and playing organized dance/fitness games. The children will enjoy 45 minutes of games and fitness and will try to learn one new dance/song at each session. At the end of the 8 weeks we will have a small recital to show parents what the children have learned during the class.

Zumbatomic is being offered every Saturday, February 11 - March 31 from 9:00 until 9:45 AM at Healthy Habits. Instructor is Amy of Amy's ABSolute Fitness. Cost is $50 per child, with a minimum of 6 students needed and a maximum of 10 accepted, so the children get plenty of personal attention.

Call Amy at 591-7800 for information or to purchase.
