Train you Brain for Weight Control

Your brain may be the key to controlling your eating behavior, according to a new book The Amen Solution:The Brain Healthy Way to Lose Weight and Keep it Off by Daniel Amen, MD. He is a well-known neuropsychiatrist who has studied the brain images of thousands of patients in 90 countries over 20 years before writing his book. His research shows that there is an adverse relationship between body fat and brain function - that is, as body fat increases, brain function appears to decrease.

He has also identified 5 (so far) brain patterns for overeaters, each requiring a different approach for successful weight control. These patterns have much in common with those of people who are addicted to drugs, sex, gambling, etc. To further complicate things, one person could have more than 1 brain pattern.

In the rest of this article, I will summarize Amen's:
5 types of overeaters, with suggested supplements and medications for each
9 ways to conquer cravings and overeating
     10 ANTs (automatic negative thoughts)
4 ANTeaters (questions to help challenge and reverse the ANTs)

News Of The Month

StarSTARS OF THE MONTH are DB and SB. DB has lost 6 pounds since the beginning of October, and SB lost 12 pounds and 3 inches off his waist. They did it at the Hilton Head Health Institute, and are continuing (mostly) to follow the lifestyle changes learned there.

RR had to be put in "timeout" one morning, through no fault of her own, although she is no stranger to misbehaving. On another morning walk, she practically dragged Trainer Mike around the neighborhood and lunged down an entire city block.

WR continues to assault his own body in his sleep. I wonder if he could learn to exercise while sleeping?

RW hid my clipboard this time, but it didn't stop me from making him workout.

As mentioned last issue, Trainer Mike's son (and client) Matt is the Head Engineer at Sun Studio. He got another engineering credit on Dale Watson's new CD, but this time there was no mention of fried chicken.

To help you celebrate the season, we are putting time on sale. For new or currently inactive clients who want to come back, you can buy up to 10 sessions for only $50 each - BUT, these discounted sessions must be used on weekdays between the hours of 12 noon and 5 pm and they expire 12/31/12.

You can buy them for yourself or get them in a gift certificate to give as a present. What a great gift for teachers, students, stay-at-home parents, part-time workers, senior citizens, and those who can slip out of the office early (we won't tell).

Current clients who can switch from mornings to afternoons can also get this deal - although not all trainers may be able to switch.

You can purchase from 1-10 sessions per person, and you may buy multiple gift certificates for different people, but 10 sessions is the maximum any one person can use.

Buy some time this Christmas - Hannukah - Kwanzaa  and give the gift that keeps on giving - fitness!
