Rules of Engagement
|
Not that kind of engagement, and not the TV show either. Nope, this time we're talking about hiring and working with a personal trainer. So, what are these rules of engagement?
Search for trainers who are a good match for you in these basic areas:expertise, experience and credentials in your goals
convenience in schedule and location
personality that suits yours
affordability
How do you find them?
Seek recommendations, do phone screening, visit clubs and observe trainers in action, contact national certifying bodies like ACSM, ACE, NSCA, NASM, NESTA. Once you have narrowed it down to 2 or 3, set up a visit to ask them:
What experience do you have working with people like me, with these goals?
What results have you and your clients like me achieved?
Can I talk with some of your clients?
Will you give me a plan for working out on my own?
Describe your style?
Are you available when I want to workout? What do you charge?
Pick 1 or 2 for a trial workout and make your decision.

| News Of The Month | |
STAR OF THE MONTH is Jeanne. Besides her hard work in the gym, she has taught me another life lesson. We were discussing the Schnucks - Kroger situation, and I was complaining about being inconvenienced by the whole thing. But her first thought was for the Schnucks employees who were now out of a job. In many ways, she is the trainer and I am the student.
Quote Corner
CL: "Is this Gaye's Boot Camp? Don't you love me anymore?"
TS: "I felt something in the back of my arm - I think it's a muscle! Don't know where it is now, but I'll find it again."
HF: "This exercise (plank opposition) is odious."
LJay: "Get out of the way, Trainer!"
Trainer Mike: "How are you today?" Jeanne: "Obtunded" Tainer Mike: "Thats not a word, is it? I have to look that up. You're right - it is a word, it means dull." Jeanne: "That's how I feel."
Welcome new clients: ACP and EW.

Improvements at Healthy Habits
| Change is in the air at Healthy Habits. We are making some exterior repairs, some interior changes, and adding some program options. We hope you will enjoy them, at least after the work is done. We apologize in advance for any inconveniences.
Exterior Improvements Starting September 21, we are removing and replacing the sofit and fascia with new wood, replacing the current wooden siding with hardie board, replacing the rotten brick in the back, and repainting the entire building outside. Also, we will remove the sign on the roof, and repair the holes which caused all the wood rot on the sofit and fascia. There will be a temporary sign in the grass until a new permanent sign is installed.
The shed will get a new roof and new hardie board siding and a garage door will be installed. And new paint of course. Also, some anchors for suspension training and heavy ropes will be installed.
All this work should be completed in 1-2 weeks, weather permitting.
Interior Improvements The Lobby space will get a makeover to be more open and useful for group classes. The large equipment pieces in there will be moved or removed altogether. Some new stuff has been ordered.
Programming Fitness Inspirations will be offering a Boot Camp at Healthy Habits in October on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 am and 12:30 pm. The class will be limited to 12 people and designed to be mostly outdoors except in bad weather. You can get more information and register on the Fitness Inspiration Facebook page or website.
Parking During construction, and especially during class times, parking could be a problem. The trainers have been asked to park across the street at the Diet Doctor, and you may need to as well sometimes. They are generally only open on Friday and Saturday, and many of the businesses at this end of the Circle use their lot for overflow parking.
Please call Mike at 684-1607 if you have any questions or concerns about these changes. Thank you again for putting up with any temporary inconvenience.
