Take Your Vitamins?

Frequent readers know that I usually go on a rant about nutritional supplements every year or so. You can read past articles on this subject in the July, August and September 2010 archives. This time I am going to narrow my focus to a particular type of supplement, vitamins. The source for much of this article comes from the August, 2011 issue of the Tufts University Diet & Nutrition Newsletter.

About 40% (and growing) of Americans take a multivitamin daily, which is the single  most popular type of supplement. But many Americans take individual vitamins also. Why have they become so popular?

I think there are several reasons.

News Of The Month

StarSTAR OF THE MONTH is MD. She is full of enthusiasm for her new exercise routine and so motivated to keep with it that she is motivating her trainer as well. She does her homework faithfully and is already reaping the rewards intrinsically, so I am sure the external rewards will follow soon. She makes me remember why I became a trainer in the first place.

CL sniffs rosemary to stay alert. At least, she says its rosemary. Something must be working, since she is within 9 pounds of her goal weight. She said she's learned to eat better by watching Trainer Gaye snack.

Quote Corner

RP: "I was so sore after that last workout that I almost called the police on you!"

TG (again!): "Can we do the lunges now?"

MD: "I'm telling all my friends about you!"

BR in the "Wreck Room" for the first time:

"This stuff looks like you got it on sale from the Spanish Inquisition!"

after using the TRX (body weight) suspension training system:

" Next time let's do this with less weight."

later:

"I hate this room!"

after the workout:

"That was good!"

Trainer Mike: " I thought you hated this room."

BR: "I have a short memory."

Pre-emptive Strike for Pre-Holiday Weight Loss
School has started, so the holidays can't be far behind. Time really does fly, you know. Strainer with client checking formoon you'll be going to parties, and hosting family dinners, and soon after that your clothes are all tight. This year, be proactive. Strike first, lose weight and get in shape before the holidays get to you!

Choose the 6 week package below that is right for you. Add the BioMetrics 6 week eating plan to any of these options for our best price of only $150. These packages are meant to be completed in 6 weeks, and must be completed within 8 weeks. You can be:

Accountable
Your trainer will help you map out a plan of exercise that works for you, but you do most of it on your own, reporting in to your trainer once a week. This is good for motivated and experienced exercisers who just need to weigh in and report to someone to stay with it. Choose 6 half hour sessions for $200 or 6 1-hour sessions for $330.

Committed
Meet with your trainer twice a week to weigh in and work on your least favorite exercises, doing the rest on your own. Good for semi-motivated or less experienced exercisers or for those who want to get the exercise habit installed. Choose 12 half hour sessions for $385 or 12 1-hour sessions for $625.

Intensive
Meet with your trainer 3 times a week to really get jump started and immersed in fitness. There's plenty of time for discussing weight  loss-related issues and still get a lot of exercise done. Good for new or unsuccessful exercisers, or for those who really need to jump in with both feet to make a lifestyle change. Choose 18 half hour sessions for $560 or 18 1-hour sessions for $900.
