Soft Drinks Suck!
|
Sorry about the crudity, but I wanted to get your attention. The more I learn about soft drinks, the worse they seem. Not that I haven't indulged in them on occasion.
While sugary soft drinks are worse, even diet drinks suck. Research has linked all sodas to an increased risk of obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. and diabetes, as well as metabolic syndrome, which is a combination of the above. Colas - the most common type of soda - in particular are also associated with lower bone mineral density in women, which can lead to osteoporosis. But sugary sodas are definitely the main concern. Among US adults, sodas, energy and sports drinks are the 4th highest source of calories, averaging 112 per day, and are the highest source of added sugars, while providing no essential nutrients. As American's consumption of added sugars has risen for the last 30 years, so have our waistlines and Body Mass Indexes. Sugary sodas are also associated with increased incidence of pancreatic cancer, gout, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. So lets sum up the current findings on soft drinks into 2 categories: What sucks about soft drinks What doesn't suck about soft drinks
Obesity Hydration High blood pressure High cholesterol Diabetes Metabolic Syndrome Low bone density Pancreatic cancer Gout Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease Zero essential nutrients
I rest my case, and I'm cutting back even more my already meager consumption of soft drinks. They really do suck, big time!

| News Of The Month | |
STARS OF THE MONTH are RW and PW. They come from the far reaches of Olive Branch 3 times a week, they have a great attitude, and they have made me a fan of NCIS, which even my sainted mother had failed to do. But, I'll never get into Walker, Texas Ranger, despite their best efforts. PW has continued even through some back trouble, with a modified routine. RW continues to work on his desired pace of losing 2# a month - more than that would require too much sacrifice on the eating side for him.
NM found a new show called Bizarre ER that will absolutely turn your stomach. At least it does mine, at 7 am.
BR paid off his NBA Finals bet by buying my lunch at the Elegant Farmer. It was really really good, and I'd say that even if I had to pay. But I didn't. Thanks BR!

Quote Corner
AM and MRS, after 1 set: "Where are we going for lunch?"
PatB: "Squeek squeek." She lost her voice, but came anyway.
MD: "An hour with you is like a week on my own!"
SB: "Actually, this exercise (bird dog) feels pretty good."
FM:"I feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger!"
FLO: "I didn't feel good this morning and almost cancelled, but I heard my mother's voice saying "Go ahead and go, you'll feel better." And I did!"
Welcome new clients: MD and WM.
Welcome back FLO, LR.
