A few months ago I had the opportunity to cross paths with a driven twenty something looking to get involved in Business as Mission. Several weeks ago he packed up everything to trek to the far corners of the world to observe, understand and engage with business as mission leaders in hopes of setting out some day on his own to build a business that combines business and ministry.

Over the next few months we'll be sharing his story and what he's learning in hopes of inspiring others to get involved. Out of respect the local governments where they will be visiting, we will be leaving some of the locations out.

Even without listing a geographic location, I'm confident that you will be inspired when reading his observations. Enjoy!

A Twenty Something's Business as Mission Journey Begins
TwentysomethingAs many of you know, this next year in addition to my full-time language study, I am continuing to pursue my interest in Business as Missions. I personally believe and have heard testimony of the many ways that the Father is working through believers in BAM-focused companies today. I feel blessed to be part of the business world for such a time as this and am excited about dialoging with you during my first-hand exposure overseas this year.

A Twenty Something's Business as Mission Journey, Case Study 1

Young AdultWe've started! We've been meeting weekly, have already met with two different companies and next week will interact with three more! Now we'll seek to capture what we feel are some key elements of one of these places to share with you.

As we said, the purpose of this note is to share observations, reflections and lessons learned as I and others journey in our learning and application of Business as Mission. It is hoped that this sharing will spark your imagination, intercession and action to grow in wisdom and understanding and love and good deeds. Domestic market case study (case study #1)

China Closes Australian Company for Promoting Christian Values :: China Aid
Enoch GroupIn an unprecedented move against a foreigner-owned firm in China, a large Australian company called Enoch Group has been raided and attacked by various Chinese government agencies in Guangdong province since August of this year. The two owners of the Enoch Group, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel and Eliza Ng, were even put under house arrest from October 12 to 25, 2007. Their cell phones were confiscated and they were not allowed to go out of their house at the Panyu district, Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

The Church as a Real Estate Developer?
Denver PastorOn the back cover of Rick Rusaw's book "The Externally Focused Church," a sentence in bold type asks: "How Can Your Church Get the Attention of Your Community?"

His own church, LifeBridge Christian, has gotten the attention of just about everybody in its hometown of Longmont, although not in the ways Rusaw and his co-author had in mind.

Next Generation Connecting to Business as Mission Opportunities
TwentySomethingBrett contacted Rightnow searching for an opportunity to spend six months in an impoverished area of Africa making an impact for Christ. Brett's Rightnow Mission Coach connected him with Business as Mission, Rwanda. Brett leaves in January for Rwanda where he will spend time using his education degree to teach Rwanda orphans.

Business as Mission, Rwanda is an exciting new ministry using business as a means of helping to alleviate the oppression of poverty in one of the world's most impoverished countries.

A Twenty Something's Business as Mission Journey, Case Study 2
TwentySomething GirlThe Business as Mission journey continues! We just returned from a week-long trip to another region where we got a much more in-depth interaction with two very different BAM strategies.

It is hoped that this sharing will spark your imagination, intercession and action to grow in wisdom and understanding and love and
good deeds.
Intergrity Matters, Period.
SuspiciousA friend of mine once ran through this analogy ...

Two families move into a neighborhood outside of a major American city. They've made a drastic move, coming from a country on the other side of the world.

Despite the fact the neighborhood is filled with coffee shops and local delis with loyal followings, together these families launch a shop of there own.

They've brought their own world class staff to run their store and you know they must be paying 3-4 times the payroll the local deli is paying. That kind of overhead is destined for financial failure in this community.
