Business as Mission. The idea that there are businesses around the world that can generate financial profit to sustain the local economy, social profit by taking care of the physical needs of a city or region and spiritual profit by sharing Christ with the employees, clients and community.

This month the Business as Mission idea made its way on to the coffee tables of thousands of Christians across the United States through two prominent magazines.

Christianity Today wove together the stores of of Ken Crowell (Galtronics), Johnny Combs (Paradigm Engineering), Bill Yeager (Yeager Kenya), Clem Schultz (AMI), Tom Sudyk (EC Group), Neal Johnson and Steve Rundle (Great Commission Companies) to cast a broad perspective of the business as mission movement.

Mission Frontiers magazine, which is one of the most established publications that addresses what God is doing in missions around the world, also featured a story "Can Business be Mission?" along with several articles from the Business as Mission Network.

Heeding the Profits :: How Entrepreneurs are Building the Kingdom by Businesses :: Christianity Today
Christianity TodayThe movement to combine business and ministry has been gaining momentum. This month thousands of readers will have the opportunity to read the cover story of November's issue of Christianity Today.

Personally, I though Joe Maxwell (author of the article) did a good job piecing together the stories of Ken Crowell (Galtronics), Johnny Combs (Paradigm Engineering), Bill Yeager (Yeager Kenya), Clem Schultz (AMI), Tom Sudyk (EC Group), Neal Johnson and Steve Rundle (Great Commission Companies) to give a picture of the business as mission movement.

Expressions of Kingdom Business :: Ken Eldred

Kingdom business has several objectives, and a thorough discussion of it covers many facets. Yes, it is about missions, successful business practices, the integration of work and faith, economic development, spreading the gospel, transforming nations and transforming lives. Yet Kingdom business is not characterized by any of these alone. Like Dan Carless's development venture, it combines all of these factors in a refreshingly integrated missions movement.

Business as Mission :: Principles and Models, an International Perspective :: Durwood Snead
Durwood SneadWhat if business is a God- created strategy to reach those in other countries who have never heard the truth? Sometimes God reveals His will by removing all other options. Such is often the case with business. Missionaries who feel called to ministries in other countries learn that they cannot go to those countries without doing business. They frequently begin by thinking of the businesses as "platforms," excuses to receive visas, but soon learn that the more authentic they can be in their businesses, the more transparent and effective they can be in their ministries.

Three Arkansas Entrepreneurs are helping build Rwanda's Largest Bank for the Poor

Their accents put the sound of Arkansas into the air. But Christian businessmen Dale Dawson, Dabbs Cavin, and Todd Brogdon are half a world away from Little Rock. They are in the garden of Des Milles Collines, better known as Hotel Rwanda and featured in the film by that name. These three are here on a life-changing mission: to help build Rwanda's largest bank for the poorest of the poor.
How these men got from Arkansas to Rwanda is a story they eagerly retold to Christianity Today during their recent trip to this East African nation-one still recovering from the 1994 war and genocide.
