REPORTING IN: FORM AND FUNCTION WORKING TOGETHER

The FUNCTION of a report whether to sell, inform, educate or impress needs FORM. Form is both the overall look and feel of the piece as well as the shape and look of the individual components - the typefaces, the graphic elements, paper texture...design. Strong form/design brings value and professionalism to your business. Compelling design married with an organizations message are a winning combination for an effective report. This issue shows how clients have benefited from Marti's exceptional ability to understand and convey their vision in print reports.

PDFs for each project are available and can be downloaded by clicking on the appropriate links in the website. SHOWN BELOW is a cover used on the kitfolder which houses The Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute's 5 Year Report "Breaking the Cycle".

EXPLAINING THE MISSION

"Breaking The Cycle"

Breaking the Cycle-the mission of the Malaria Research Institute-is the focus of this report. Reports are used to provide a summary of an organization's operations and often include its mission, future plans, profiles of key management, research or staff. The target audience may be investors, customers, students, employees, partners. Explaining the mission is the process of educating and involving investors and the general public of the focus and work of the group. The challenge with designing reports is to turn intellectual information and corporate mission statements into a visually appealing package. In this report, a strong graphic format provides structure to a visually driven piece. Information is easy to read and supported with beautiful photography.

Another Mission

"Reaching New Heights"
gs1

It was a record setting year-in a number of areas- for the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital . Key among their new heights was membership. Now the largest leadership development organization for girls, they wanted the 2007 report to reflect this mission and accomplishment.

GSCNC aimed high and achieved. The compelling title "Reaching New Heights" and complimentary cover design make a great first impression. Appearance is reality in marketing, and you have to look as professional as you are. View a few spreads below and watch your eyes leap to the photos. Text is broken into digestible morsels with lots of white space.

A Mission of Change

Sustainable Future

The way information is presented (FORM) can be as important as the copy or product information itself. The right designer with a sense of the big picture is essential. Report design is about splitting up the content into absorbable pieces. Images, pull quotes, typography, charts, illustrations and headings are all tools used to break up content and also add interest to the page. Marti uses these tactics to help highlight the most important elements in the content and encourage deeper reading and FUNCTIONALITY.
