Three years of determined organizing culminated June 6 with the signing into law of the Tennessee Voter Confidence Act to require paper ballots and post-election audits in a state that has been dominated by some of the worst DRE machines in the nation.
Tonight, we will hear how Gathering to Save Our Democracy won this victory.
Gathering organizer Bernie Ellis and legislative coordinator Deborah Narrigan will tell how their statewide network brought an end to paperless DRE voting in Tennessee over three years of steady public education, legislative lobbying, media action, and coalition building.
We'll examine the bill's clauses in detail, in the context of Tennessee's election adminstrative structure and legislative process, and consider the advances gained and the risks that remain.
