The New York State Legislature's session finished last week, and the Rochester Business Alliance and its Unshackle Upstate partners were actively engaged in the debate until the very end.

2020 Commission Findings Supported
The Rochester Business Alliance supports the findings of the 2020 Commission, which was charged with formulating recommendations to guide state Health Department decisions about major investments in the region's health care systems.
Support the New York Property Tax Cap Coalition
The Rochester Business Alliance, Unshackle Upstate and others have signed onto the New York Property Tax Cap Coalition, which supports Gov. Paterson's bill to limit annual school tax increases . To learn more or to sign on, click here.

Revised I-9 Form Released
As of June 16, 2008, the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form has been updated with a current expiration date.  We encourage employers to download the current form as soon as possible.

IRS Increases Mileage Rates through Dec. 31, 2008
In response to climbing gasoline prices, the Internal Revenue Service announced an increase in the optional standard mileage rates from 50.5 cents to 58.5 cents a mile for all business miles driven from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2008. 
Dollar graphic Tax Credits Available for Employers Who Hire Inner City Youth
Businesses can look forward to a tax credit when hiring youth who reside in designated Federal Renewal Communities and/or Empowerment Zones, including Rochester, which has more than 15,500 eligible youth. Programs include the WOTC Summer Youth program and WOTC programs for newly-hired eligible youth ages 18-24.
