2011-2012 City Council Committee Structure
On July 18th, Councilman Nevitt was elected, once again, to serve as City Council President and Councilwoman Peggy Lehmann was re-elected President Pro-Tem. Together they will continue to serve as the Council's leadership for the July 2010 - July 2011 term.
The committee structure Councilman Nevitt implemented in his first term has been a great success and will continue with just a few minor changes. There are still four standing committees -- "Government & Finance," "Land Use, Transportation, & Infrastructure," "Business, Workforce, & Sustainability," and "Health, Safety, Education, & Services" -- but now each committee will be run by a chair and a co-chair instead of two equal co-chairs. Committees and their areas of responsibility are as follows:
Government & Finance - Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.
Chair: Robin Kniech; Co-Chair: Mary Beth Susman
- City budget, bonding, purchasing, and other financial policies and decisions
- State and federal legislation and lobbying
- Denver elections and ballot measures
- City personnel polices
- City internal organization and operations
- Relations w/ other local governments
Land Use, Transportation, & Infrastructure - Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
Chair: Jeannie Robb; Co-Chair: Judy Montero
- Zoning and other land-use decisions and planning
- Public buildings, parks, and transportation planning, programs, and polcy
- Streets, utilities, and other physical infrastructure
Business, Workforce, & Sustainability - Wednesdays, 1:30 p.m.
Chair: Charlie Brown; Co-Chair: Albus Brooks
- Business development, promotion, and retention
- Workforce training and development
- City contracting and concessions polices and programs
- Housing affordability policies and programs
- Energy, waste, water, and other sustainability policies and programs
- Tourism, conventions, cultural, and sports attractions
Health, Safety, Education, & Services - Tuesdays, 1:30pm
Chair: Paul Lopez; Co-Chair: Debbie Ortega
- Public Health
- Public safety and security
- Education and youth programs and policies
- Senior services and programs
- Libraries
- Municipal justice system
- Human services and social assistance programs
Additionally, Councilman Nevitt has formed two "special issues" committees to address pressing concerns that don't fall easily within the jurisdiction of a standing committee, or that will require a great deal of special attention. The two "special issues" committees are: "National Western Stockshow" and "Council Redistricting." These committees meet as needed at the discretion of the chair.
National Western Stockshow (NWSS)
Chair: Judy Montero; Co-Chair: Charlie Brown
Council Redistricting
Chair: Paul Lopez: Co-Chair Chris Herndon
You can watch all Council committees live on Channel 8, or from our archives. Additionally, City Council has a great website to help you stay on top of things. If you haven't checked it out already be sure to visit next time you need more information on an agenda, a bill, or the municipal code. |
