Child Care Services during the Teacher's Strike (March 5-7)

Kinnikinnik Child Care Centre will be offering special full day care for children Kindergarten to Grade 5.

 

The Centre will be open from 7:00 am until 5:30 pm. 
Cost: $14/half-day per child and $27/day per child that is new to the program. Families whose children are normally attending the program will be charged a reduced fee.

Spring Break Camps

 

Kinnikinnik Child Care Centre is offering special activities for school-age children while the SD#71 elementary schools are closed for the Spring Break.

 

Monday - Friday

7:00 am - 5:30 pm
Cost: $27/day per child

Relâche du printemps - École francophone (12-23 mars)

 

Pendant la relâche du Conseil scolaire francophone, la halte-garderie Creative Kids pourra accomoder les enfants de 11 ans et moins selon la disponibilité des places.

 

La halte-garderie sera ouverte selon les heures régulières soit les mardis, mercredis et jeudis de 9:00 am à 4:00 pm.

Coût : 4$ de l'heure par enfant

Youth Centre Memberships

  

Youth memberships are still available for the 2011/2012 year!  Memberships that are purchased mid-year are pro-rated and valid until August 31, 2012. Members of THE MOX youth centre are eligible for FREE admission to the Comox MFRC Kids' Club, PreTeen, or Teen Drop-in nights as well as reduced fees for many special activities and events at the Comox MFRC. Memberships are available at the Comox MFRC Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm for all military and defence team dependants.

Drop in and enjoy a morning full of activities, including crafts, circle time and gross motor play.

 

Creative Kids Casual Child Care 

Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays

9:00 am - 4:00 pm / $4 per hour or TAB 

A casual child care option for children from infancy to
5 years. Children are cared for in a child-centered environment while parents attend workshops, appointments or have well deserved time off. Notes: A minimum booking of 1 hour is required. Payment required at time of registration.

  

Saturday Play (0-12 yrs)
Every Saturday / 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
$15 per session or 4 TAB hours

Use this block of 4 hours to get tasks done or just relax while your children are cared for in a fun and safe environment. Notes: Priority registration to deployment families until Wednesday each week. Every Wednesday, any unreserved spaces are made available for other military families to book on a first come first served basis.

Children participate in organized activities such as games, music, crafts and other fun activities in a safe environment that encourages socializing with peers.

New this year: Birthday month cupcakes! We'll celebrate everyone who has a birthday in that month with cupcakes!Notes: The Healthy Choices canteen is available. Max purchase allowance of $1 per night per child for one light snack and a juice.

 

PreTeen Drop-in Nights (9 - 12 Yrs) 

Wednesdays / 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Youth Centre / FREE - Members / $2 - Non-Members
Kids interact through various activities, indoor & outdoor games, and social events. The program helps preteens transition into the teen program by providing them with opportunities to independently organize some of their own activities for the evening. Notes: The Healthy Choices canteen is available. Maximum purchase allowance of $2 per night.

 

Teen Drop-in Nights (13 - 18 Yrs)

Think you're the best gamer out there? Sign up for the Gamer's Tournament and prove it! Gamers will compete in an elimination style tournament against each other until we have a winner.

We will be making ourselves dinner and then watching a movie on the big screen in our Multi Purpose Room. Bring your favourite camping chair, blanket and wear your comfy PJ's to relax and catch a flick. Youth are responsible for their own movie munchies, which can be purchased from The MOX canteen. Pre-registration required.

Extended Drop-In (13 - 18 Yrs)
Friday, March 30 / 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Youth Centre / $5 per teen
We'll be open late - till 11:00 pm to kick off your Spring Break with a BANG! Come hang out, play games, watch a movie. Maybe try on the sumo suits? Eat at the hot dog bar? Play in the pool tournament? Come check it out! Pre-registration required.

In this demo style class, we will take a look at different ways to prepare your next brunch. This class will provide you with tons of inspiration to wow even your ficklest eaters. We will prepare a variety of family friendly brunch items such as eggs Benny, baked asparagus rolls, ham and egg strudels, stuffed French Toast and fruit with a Sabayon sauce. Please advice of allergies when registering and bring a container for samples.

The culinary adventure covers different trails throughout the Valley. The tour brings you to artisan food producers, wine makers and brew masters of the valley. See them in action while enjoying a great networking opportunity. On the tour is an artisan pasta studio, a brewery, wineries and a seafood processing plant. A gourmet buffet picnic will showcase some of the best food produced in the region. This culinary tour is designed to help you experience the valley in all its flavourful splendour! Transportation provided Meet at the Comox MFRC at 9:45 am.

Do you enjoy writing? Have you ever considered writing about what it's like to be a military family dealing with the challenges of deployments? Join us for this introductory session to see if you might like to join our deployment writing circle. Tips and ideas to help get your ideas onto paper, and the opportunity to share what you have written will be offered as part of the circle. No experience is necessary - just a desire to write and enjoy the company and experiences of others who know what you're going through.Limited Child Care subsidy available.

Community Announcement - 'Waiting for the Parade'
Courtenay Little Theatre, the local award winning theatre company, is preparing a production of Waiting for the Parade by John Murrell. Performed world wide, this play is set in Calgary in the 1940s, as five women wait at home during World War II. The play will be presented in the Sid Williams Theatre, April 13, 14, 20, 21, 22 at 7.30 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday April 15 at 2.00 p.m.. The story includes both military and civilian wives and is a wonderful portrayal of women at home during wartime. FMI and to purchase tickets, visit the Sid Williams Theatre website.
