Learn each teacher's individual grading system.
Every teacher has his or her own method of determining your grade. Spend time to fully understand how homework, quizzes, projects, tests and final exams affect your final grade for each of your classes.
Keep all past assignments, papers and tests in a home file.
Creating a customized filing system provides a place for you to store old work and notes, while alleviating stress you experience from searching for lost papers. This becomes an important resource for you when preparing for future exams, research papers and reviews.
Always record assignments as soon as they are given.
Of course you have a wonderful memory, but it's easy to forget things that are not written down. Your planner is the most important tool you use in school. It will improve academic and personal success while reducing the tendency to procrastinate.
Create a homework schedule each night.
A student who procrastinates will fall further and further behind. By developing time management skills, you will discover a more balanced life. Establish a regular time and place for studying, and don't forget to schedule 10-minute breaks.
Use your study halls to study.
The same goes for the extra time given at the end of class. Socializing can wait. View it as a gift of time. If you use it wisely, you will have less to do later in the evening.
Advocate for yourself.
Ask for help as soon as you realize you don't understand something. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to catch-up. Surround yourself with good resource people and make a commitment to go to them whenever you have a question.
