Time is almost up. Applications for the Universal City North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Theater and Arts Scholarship of $1,000 are due March 15.

 

Applications and attachments must be submitted to the UCNH Chamber of Commerce by March 15, 2011. See our website

The UCNH Chamber of Commerce annual installation of officers will be March 31, at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn. 4222 Vineland Ave. North Hollywood, 91602 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. 

 

Cost will be $35 per person and will include hot and cold appetizers, and an Awards Program honoring members and representatives from the community.

 

Payments can be made through Easy Payments on PayPal on www.noho.org Program Sponsorships will be available, contact the office to find out how you can have your business card appear in the program for only $50.

Distressed Homeowners Workshop: March 5

Congressman Howard Berman is holding a Homeowners Assistance and Retention Workshop on Saturday, March 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The workshop will be in the Marvin Braude San Fernando Valley Constituent Service Center, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys. The workshop will on the first floor in Conference Rooms 1A and 1B.

Services will include Free Loss Mitigation Counseling, Free Housing Counseling and Free Foreclosure Prevention Information.  Participants should bring:

  • Loan documents and recent mortgage statement
  • 2009 and 2010 pay stubs
  • 2009 and 2010 W2s
  • Last 2 years' tax returns
  • A list of monthly expenses
  • Hardship letter

Election Day Guidance

Election Day is coming March 8. You probably couldn't miss the fact with all the electioneering fliers coming in the mail. For a business perspective, we offer the positions of our own Board of Directors (below) and the United Chambers of Commerce (here). Your vote does make a difference.

The ballot recommendations of our own Board are:

Support Measures:

  • G - Slightly reduces sworn officers' pension benefits.  
  • I - Establishes a DWP Office of Public Accountability and a Ratepayer Advocate.  
  • J - Additional reporting requirements for DWP.  
  • O - Establishes a $1.44 per barrel tax on crude oil extracted in Los Angeles.
  • P - Would require a reserve account of 2.75% of General Fund receipts.
  • Q - Employment provisions for civil service employees.  

Oppose Measures:  

  • H - Affects political fundraising by contract bidders of $100,000 or more.
  • L - Would increase Library Department's share of General Fund from .0175% to .03%.  
  • M - Would establish a city business tax of $50 per $1,000 of gross receipts by medical marijuana collectives.  
  • N - Affects political campaign financing.
