We would like to welcome you to our Spring issue of iPad In Aviation News, a newsletter focused on the iPad in aviation.
What a start!
The iPad has taken off with pilots around the world who use the iPad to view charts electronically, to add a moving map and glass cockpit features to those planes not so equipped, and to be a back-up MFD to those with a glass cockpit.
iPad 2 has been released and off to a wild success. It is lighter, thinner and has a camera. If having the camera for taking pictures and for the easiest video conferencing ever and having the ability to display what is on the iPad 2 onto a projector, the iPad 2 is worth going for. If you don't have an iPad yet and don't need these features, there are great deals on new and used original iPads.
The FAA has been working with Jeppesen and Executive Jet Management to approve the use of the iPad as a Class 1 electronic flight bag. Requirments for a Class 1 EFB include, among other things, that the iPad must be secure and viewable during critical phases of flight - and use of our iPad Kneeboard Pro™ meets this requirement. See the article below.
Speaking of the FAA, on May 13th, 2011, they released InFO 11011, information for operators to help meet certain administrative, regulatory, or operational requirements. The subject - The Apple iPad and other suitable tablet computing devices as Electronic Flight Bags (EFB). A link to InFO 11011 is below.
The software companies have been working hard. The two of the most popular products, ForeFlight and WingX Pro7 have both seen major new releases. You can find more information about that below.
The team at MyGoFlight.com has been working hard too. We have done the following:
- Released the iPad Kneeboard Pro™ for iPad 2.
- Created the Retrofit program so you can send us your iPad Kneeboard Pro™ for the iPad and convert it for the iPad 2.
- Introduced "Just for you. Skins." to protect, personalize or brand the iPad Kneeboard Pro™. For both new and existing customers.
- Added two External GPS.devices. One plugs in, one Bluetooth. When having a GPS signal is a must have, not a nice to have.
- Added the Night Vision Pen. Light the paper, not the iPad. Puts green, eye protecting light where you need it when you need it.
- Created a Facebook
page where we post current news. "Friend" us and join our community.
We believe using the iPad in the cockpit requires a system. The iPad for access to aviation apps, charts and a wealth of information; the iPad Kneeboard Pro™ C to secure and position the iPad; an external GPS to stay connected to the satellites; the Night Vision Pen to light the paper and not the iPad; and the MGF Slipcase to hold the iPad, the, case, the accessories, the charger, pens and paper.
Therefore, we created the Pro™ C System - a complete package at a special price to give you all that you need to make using the iPad in-flight work as smooth, save and secure as possible. Existing customers that choose to Retrofit their case for their iPad to the one for iPad 2 can also choose to add the System at the same time with the same savings.
And our customers have been working hard as well. We have received wonderful feedback of ideas for improvement as well as stories of how our case is enabling pilots to make full use of their iPad in-flight. These are their stories. If you would like to send us your story or suggestions, click here.
Lastly, we will have a booth at Oshkosh this year. Hopefully we will get the chance to meet many of you there!
