Celebrating scholar athletes!

Dear Parents and OLF Families,

At Wednesday's Sports Awards Ceremony, parents, coaches and families gathered to honor our athletes. Besides their accomplishments on the playing field, today's scholar athlete needs to juggle numerous schedules from homework to practice, nutrition and sleep, family time and competition schedules.

Gone are the days when athletic scouts would look at slam dunks, yards and fractions of seconds alone. Today's scholar athlete must prove that he or she is excelling in academics and athletics. One of the most important factors for high school and university teams are the student's eligibility to play! Talent is abundant, as many students are pursuing dreams of a lucrative sports profession. What is left when this does not materialize due to injury or simply probability?

Our celebration at OLF stretched far beyond eligibility and talent. We focused on sportsmanship, teamwork, school spirit, love for sports and a sense of belonging!

It became apparent that our athletes are excellent at what they do in the classroom and on the field, but that the trademark of OLF Athletics Program is excellence in sportsmanship and a true passion for the sports. This is something our scholar athletes can share for a lifetime, as sports is a uniting force around the world that needs no translation! Also, it doesn't hurt to get a trophy or medal in the process!

Well done athletes, coaches and parents! We are looking forward to another successful year in 2012-13!

Blessings,

Mrs. Beate Nguyen, M.A. Ed.,

Principal
