"Zumba" fitness comes to OLF

Dear Parents and OLF Families,

As our nation fights childhood obesity and struggles with health issues, our students are embarking on a journey of Latin-dance inspired fun and fitness. Zumba is a new way of staying fit, while enjoying the rhythm of Columbia, Brazil and other Central and South-American countries.

Guided by an licensed Zumba instructor and OLF parent, Mrs. Rattana Manalo, the Jr. High School students are "testing" this new elective. Given the positive response and enthusiasm of enrollment, we anticipate extending these opportunities to other age groups, and possibly hosting a session for our faculty after work.

Whether inside or outside, all that is needed is a great instructor, a flat surface, athletic shoes and good music that makes you move!

Zumba Dancing

Dance allows our students to express themselves physically and artistically, as "effective communicators" in space and time. It is also an integral part of developing a sense of balance, control and self-awareness.

Zumba choreography incorporates such dances as hip-hop, merengue, mambo and some martial arts moves. This is another opportunity for our OLF students to experience an eye-opening, fun and fast-faced fitness exploration around the world.

 Blessings,

Mrs. Beate Nguyen, M.A. Ed.,

Principal
