World Water Day 2012
| |
Dear Parents and OLF Families,
Today, March 22, we observed World Water Day, a global awareness day for one of our most valuable resources. The morning started our with an assembly that demonstrated to every student how 11% of our world's population does not have access to clean drinking water. "If the student population of OLF represents the world population, nearly all of Mrs. Levinson's 1st graders would be affected." This was an eye-opening statistic to many in the audience, who soon realized that every drop of water is precious!

During the afternoon, students in MAP - 3rd Grade were were treated to a water safety assembly in the form of a puppet show. Grades 5 and 6 addressed the same subject matter in a game show format. The "AquaSafe" Assembly was sponsored by the California Department of Boating and Waterways, and informed the students about safety issues while having fun in the water.
Finally, our 4th graders used the opportunity to connect their history lesson on the "Pilgrim" ship with the experience on the seashore at Dana Point!
World Water Day 2012 was a great example on how we can connect current events and authentic application of knowledge to increase the learning experience for every child at OLF. Blessings, Mrs. Beate Nguyen, M.A. Ed., Principal |
