How does God call us?
| |
Dear Parents and OLF Families,
On Wednesday, our students assembled in McGowan Hall for the very first time. With awe and amazement written all over their faces, they entered the big building and quietly sat down on the carpeted floor, eager to listen! What was going on here, you wonder?
It was part of the week-long celebration of National Vocations Week. The students had prayed at morning assemblies for new vocations to the priesthood, and religious brothers and sisters. Today, they were attending the Kids Vocation Forum at OLF. As the panel of speakers assembled on stage, the students anticipation grew. Attending were Father Jack, Father Paul, Rick Hardy, Robin Margraf, Audrey Donaldson, all students, teachers and myself as moderator.
Following the opening prayer for vocations, each member of the panel introduced themselves. They explained their role within the Catholic Church and the Parish. Most importantly, they shared their individual stories of how God has called them to serve the Church and others.
Then came the interactive portion of this student event: "How do you listen to God?" one Kindergarten student asked? "How did you know that you wanted to become a priest" another student asked. One by one the students came forward to pose their questions...."How old were you, when God called you?", "Did you go to the seminary?", "Why did you choose to become a Music Director?" "What did you want to become when you grew up?" "How do you talk to God?" The questions prepared by students during Religion instructions went on an on. Patiently, and with a big smile, each panel member took turns to answer these important question.
Then, suddenly it struck me at the end of this wonderful event, "Was it coincidence that we were gathering our students in McGowan Hall for the first time during National Vocations Week?" What are the odds, that the very first student assembly in the brand-new hall, named after Monsignor, centers around God's calling during National Vocations Week, when we pray for and honor our priests, and religious brothers and sisters. Coincidence or divine design? We all know the answer.....
Blessings,
Mrs. Beate Nguyen, M.A. Ed., Principal

Every effort is being made to ensure that you have plenty of notification for events, guest speakers, and parent information nights, now that we can actually plan ahead and have a gathering place for the entire school family!
Our first general assembly for school parents and families is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1st to celebrate Catholic School Week 2012! Further details will be forthcoming!
