Peacemakers, prayers and a rock
Dear parents and OLF families,
On September 21st, we observed World Peace Day with the rest of our global community. Our students prayed for peace and listened to the prayer of St. Francis at morning assembly. When I asked the students "how can you be a peacemaker?" during my class visits, I was given specific suggestions: "We can be kind to each other!" said one, or "Mmhh, mmhh,... when the ball rolls towards someone on the playground, we can ask them to play with us!" said the other.
I had to agree that our children are perfectly correct. World peace starts with us, in our hearts. Whether at home, on our playground, in our parish or beyond the city borders, it is something we need to strive for in everything we do. World Peace Day for OLF is not one day in the year, it happens every day! Our faith teaches us to be "instruments of peace".
In order to remind ourselves of our continuous commitment of being a peacemaker, we started a student project in the Fatima Grotto. It is the OLF Peace Rock, ...and we are painting it! This student project should be completed by next week.
The giant peace dove, surrounded by student hand prints from each grade level, will serve as a permanent reminder that our OLF family works together to achieve world peace. May your hearts be filled with God's peace today and every day!
Beate W. Nguyen, M.A.Ed.

OUR PARENTS ARE TERRIFIC!!
Last week we had our school pictures taken and the same day we were notified of the lice situation. Several moms who offered to help with the pictures, ended up helping with our "lice check" as well. Thank you SO much to Valerie Isaksen, Caylin Wade, Boo Williams, Tina Moran and Denise Schnarr for your willingness to help us with whatever we need. Please know how very much we appreciate all our parents and all you do for us above AND beyond your service hours!!! |

ITBS TESTING WEEKS - SEPTEMBER 26 - OCTOBER 5
During the next two weeks, our students in Grades 2 - 8 will be taking their annual Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The ITBS is a norm referenced standardized assessment taken by students in the Diocese of Orange. This assessment at the beginning of the school year allows our faculty at OLF to use the test results for instructional purposes, guiding differentiated instruction and augmenting learning support for every child. Please ensure that your child does not miss any days of school! Absences during testing week are very hard to make up and can impact the overall outcomes. A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast will also guaranteed to produce a happy test taker! Parents will be given their child's test results during the month of November. |
|
TECH ANGELS MEETING - Thursday, September 29th
The newly formed "Tech Angels" Committee will be meeting on September 29th at 6:30 p.m. in the prayer room. This initial meeting will establish the goals for the committee and set timelines for future technology upgrades. The OLF Tech Angels will assist the Principal in the strategic development and implementation of the technology plan. |

Field Trip Transportation Task Force |
After discussing the field trip policy of bus transportation at our Consultative Board meeting on Tuesday night, we have decided to put together a task force to consider the issues, research other policies, and develop possible solutions. Our goal will be to continue to offer our wonderful field trips, provide the highest level of safety for our students, and protect the school. Please notify Mrs. Nguyen at bnguyen@olfschool.net if you are interested in serving on this task force. |

Athletic Teams | |
Parents of OLF athletes, please check your email daily for messages from your coach regarding practices/games! We discourage your child from using our clinic phone to inform you of a practice or game! |
