Welcome back! | |
Dear parents and OLF families,
| | 2011 Faculty Retreat |
Our hearts are filled with hope for the future, when we realize that our children are our nation's most valuable resource. We, parents and teachers are our students' strongest advocates for success. When families, faculty and students work together, the desired outcomes can be achieved!
At our recent Faculty Retreat, much time was spent praying for guidance, love, patience and wisdom. The peaceful day at Casa Romantica was led by Father Jack and other leaders from the OC Diocese and OLF Parish. We took time out of our busy schedules to reflect on our unity in Jesus Christ.

New Parent Welcome Dinner |
Then, our Family Angels welcomed many new families to OLF at the New Parent Welcome Dinner. The Parents of Fatima (PoF) supported the event and we are thankful for their efforts.
Later during Faculty Orientation, the faculty and staff planned, organized and collaborated to ensure a successful start. Any anticipated transitional challenges quickly evaporated and were replaced by effective sessions of consenus-building teamwork. This resulted in our understanding of past accomplishments and the shaping of a new vision! Much of this new information will be shared with you at our mandatory Back-to-School and Parent Orientation Night on September 14th.
For the first few days of school, we will focus on establishing solid routines and fair discipline for all students, keeping our faith and everyone's safety at the forefront! This includes some changes stemming from our new play areas, the planned grass field, and a new traffic flow chart. Please review the attached relevant information in this newsletter. Let us "model" our ability to follow instructions and maintain our safe learning environment.
Remember, that you will have an opportunity to "meet and greet" your teacher(s) tonight at the event commencing at 4 p.m. in the Falcon's Quad. Used uniforms will be available for sale and Spirit Shirts can be ordered. Please note that our first Spirit Day will be after Labor Day on September 6th, and our Friday Mass schedule begins on September 9th, with the Opening Mass and Blessing of the School.
I look forward to seeing you soon, as we begin the new school year together!
Blessings!
Mrs. Beate Nguyen, M.A.Ed.

CONSTRUCTION & TRAFFIC UPDATE |
Please be patient and allow for extra time, until we have "practiced" this for a few days! We are implementing a new traffic pattern for regular drop-off and pick-up of students. Please study the enclosed schematic flow chart and ensure that cell phones and pets are not a distraction to our children's safety. All parents, family members and designated drivers who are picking up or dropping off students at OLF must follow this precisely. Please note that on rainy day schedule, parents/guardians will have to park and literally escort their children directly to the classroom door.
ON TUESDAY MORNING, AUGUST 30th, WE WILL HAVE RAINY DAY PARKING! REGULAR TRAFFIC FLOW WILL BEGIN AT THE NOON DISMISSAL! Everyone, returning or new, must follow instructions by school personnel and designated volunteers at all times. MAP and 1st graders are supervised in the area known as "Fatima's Grotto". Drivers of MAP and 1st Graders should use lane "A" for pick-up. The "Safe Zone" is an added feature space for everyone's safety. |

NEW! NEW! NEW! Calling all student leaders!
This year we are announcing the formation of our OLF Ambassadors, a group of young student leaders (MAP - 8th Grade) who will serve to represent our school in the local and global community. Through service learning, our students will discover the true meaning of leadership and self-worth. The OLF Ambassadors will be varying in participation levels, depending on age requirements and age-appropriate activities. Our new leadership program will complement the Student Council, which serves as the "student government" on campus. Mrs. Nguyen will explain this to the entire student body at morning assembly and during class time. Please watch for additional announcements on this leadership opportunity! |

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LITERACY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2011
Being able to read is a privilege not everyone can attain around the world! Our students will show their appreciation for the gift of literacy by celebrating this important global event as follows:
1. Special classroom activities according to grade-levels
2. Art projects augmenting the awareness of International Literacy Day
3. Special guest speakers (on various types of literacy)
4. Service learning - We are "recycling" our unused eye wear at this occasion!
Our young OLF Ambassadors (in MAP-8th Grade) will be collecting used reading glasses, lenses and frames to donate to those around the world who need them! Your teachers will share more information about this! Please support our young leaders and this OLF Ambassador Project!
