Re-registration 2011-2012
DUE MARCH 10th | |
Your family re-registration form for the 2011-2012 school year came home in the yellow envelope last week. Please note that the non-refundable re-registration fee for EACH child is $250. Re-registration forms are due by March 10th. NOTE: There will be a NON-NEGOTIABLE $100 late fee PER CHILD for any re-registration form not received by March 10th.
A question was raised last week about what the registration fee covers. The registration fee covers the majority of the up front costs: textbooks, consumable books, classroom materials, individual spirit t-shirts, yearbooks for each student, student head tax for the Diocese of $25 per student, per student cost for Discovery Streaming, per student insurance, yearly accreditation fee per student WASC/WCEA, and yearly CAPSO fee per student. The $250 does not always cover all the above fees. |

| Construction Update | HALL PAD CERTIFIED This week work was completed on the site for our new hall and the pad was certified for laying the foundation. The picture to the left depicts the layout of the hospitality corner. Coffee, donuts, and refreshments will be conveniently located at the corner of the new hall (approximately where the old modular building ended). The picture with the wood framing shows the corner of the new hall kitchen. Work continues on the service road that will lead up to the kitchen from the main La Esperanza driveway. This includes the retaining wall that will be built next to the canyon. The storm drains are being installed during this time. Grading continues for the La Esperanza driveway in its approach in front of the church to the current parking lot. "Every worthwhile gift, every genuine benefit comes from above." (James 1:16). |

Palm Burning | |
Palm Burning in Preparation for Ash Wednesday
It has become a tradition here at Our Lady of Fatima Parish School to burn last year's palms at a prayer service during morning assembly on the day before Ash Wednesday. The ashes will be used on Ash Wednesday to mark our foreheads with a cross. If you have blessed palms from last year, please place them in the basket at the front entry of the school.

| Preparing Before Lent Begins | Taking some time to get ready for Lent will ensure that we aren't going to miss the first week or two of Lent, because we are just getting started. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 9th, but we want to be ready to really take off on that day, rather than just beginning to think about Lent on that day. Part of what makes a vacation or a special anniversary so special is the build up to it. Before we get to Ash Wednesday, we should start asking ourselves some questions and we should start with some preparations. "What does God want to give me this year?" This question may require that I slow down a bit and listen to my inner spirit. "What am I going to be doing on Ash Wednesday?" Too often, Ash Wednesday is like every other day, except that I manage to get to church and get ashes on my forehead. Is there anything else I can do on Ash Wednesday? How will fasting and abstaining happen for me, for my family on that special day? It doesn't take a lot of time to prepare for the beginning of Lent. It just takes desire and focus. God can do so much with that. We can give God more of a space to touch our hearts if we begin to establish some simple patterns. We could wake up each morning, and for as little as half a minute to a minute, stand by the edge of our beds, and just ask the Lord for the grace to let this day be one in which we long for the beginning of Lent. Whatever we try to say, our Lord can understand the Spirit trying to speak through our simple words. And all it takes is the time to find and put on our slippers. And each night, in the days ahead, we can practice giving thanks to God before going to bed. This simple pattern, in the morning and evening, can stir our spirits to look forward to and prepare for Lent as a season of grace.

| Mixed Grades Choir | Dear Parents and Students, Miss Lautsch and Mrs. Levinson are in the process of forming a mixed grades choir for third trimester. Students will participate in singing at the masses and must commit to coming to one rehearsal a week, after school on Thursdays from 3-3:25. Students in grades 1-8 may participate in the choir. Students will need to audition to be in the choir. Only about 20 students will be selected from various grades. Auditions will be during music class during the week of March 7-11. Students must prepare and memorize one refrain and verse from Breaking Bread, the books used in church. Students in grades 7-8 may audition at lunch on March 9-10 in the prayer room. We hope many of you will choose to share your wonderful talents with our school and parish community! Hope to see every one of you audition. The names of students chosen will be announced the week of March 14th.
