Dear Parents, | |
OLF is fortunate to have a class from CSUSan Marcos doing a research project on our summer math program. In order to gain this important data, they are asking for VERY BRIEF parent feedback. The survey is very short and quick. Please follow the link below to answer the questions. You will need to go separately to the link for each child in your family. This is to help us ascertain the overall effectiveness of the summer math books. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey.

| 2011 - 2012 Scholarships |
2011-2012 Scholarships: We will be using a new company next year to evaluate our scholarship applications. The new company is FAST (Financial Aid for School Tuition). Our website, olfschool.net, will have a link to the FAST website. All FAST's applications are done online. The FAST site is very user-friendly and a customer service number is listed for questions. Please check out the website and what you will need to apply. You can go in and out of your application until you pay the $36 application (to FAST) and then your application is considered complete. They will advise you about sending supporting documents. There will be limited scholarship funds available for the 2011-2012 school year and no full scholarships can be awarded. As in prior years, applications will only be considered after they are complete and verified with supporting documentation. You will be advised of your award in early March. |
| After School Care Bills ... | Please check your child's yellow folder today for After School Care Bills. Bills are due by the 15th or there is a $15.00 late fee. Return bill with payment to the clinic. Please make sure to call the office and let the teacher know when your child is out sick or if they will not be attending school for any reason. |

| Christmas Concert | | "Angels on Assignment" is a Christmas play that tells the story of the birth of Jesus Christ through the eyes of the angels in heaven. Angels are given assignments to prepare for the coming of Jesus. This funny, exciting play shows how the angels might have felt about this holy event. The sixth grade will host the play and it will also incorporate songs from each grade into the play. It will be a wonderful evening full of music, laughter and joy. Please join us Tuesday December 14 at 7:00pm for the show. Students in grades MAP-6 must arrive no later than 6:40pm and should dress in holiday attire (no jeans or t-shirts please). Family, friends, neighbors and alumni are welcome to join us as well! It is guaranteed to send you on your way filled with Christmas spirit! |
| Scrip Is Ready For Orders! | Parents of OLF: Scrip is ready for your orders. We will be placing the first order on Monday morning (December 6th) and your order will be sent home with your child on Thursday. Also, great news: we will also be partnering with Community Connection Scrip. They offer Costco, Target, McDonald's, Nordstroms and many others. Please see their attached list of gift cards available. If you would like to place an order through them please complete the attached order form and deliver it to the school office with a check made payable to OLF. For the Great Lakes gift cards please place your order on line through the Presto Pay. Refer to the information in the last newsletter which explains how to set upyour account. If you have any questions or concerns please email Stefanie Bates at stefbates@cox.net. |
| Annual Giving Campaign | Sincere appreciation to all of you who have sent a pledge or contribution to this year's Annual Giving Campaign. Because of your generosity we are able to continue and grow the programs our students need to become the best they can be.
As of this week, we have raised $31,990 in pledges and gifts toward this year's goal of $45,000. We are delighted to share that 70% percent of our families are currently participating. A total of $22,647.50 has been collected and is already being put to use.
We invite all of you who haven't yet sent in your pledge or contribution to please do so today! We are counting on every family's participation in order to reach our goal. OLF has a strong history of family participation in the Annual Giving Campaign that we want to continue. Take advantage of year-end tax deductions by making your gift before December 31, 2010. Pledge forms and remittance envelopes are in the box located in the clinic.
Special thanks in honor of the season to all those who have helped with the this year's appeal. Without your gift of time and talent we wouldn't be as successful at raising the treasure! |
| December Christian Outreach | | If you are interested in adopting a family for the holidays, you can contact Family Assistance Ministries or visit http://www.brightfutures4kids.org/adopt_2010/adopt.php, to get the name of a family to support during the holidays. |
| Outreach to Mexico and More |
For many years, families at OLF have supported the work of Build a Miracle, a non-profit organization based in San Diego, California that raises funds to build homes for needy families in Tijuana. OLF has helped to build many of the homes over the years. Some families have gone to Tijuana to help construct the homes. This year, the organization plans to host a Christmas party for families in the neighborhood where these homes have been built. They are asking their supporters to donate their leftover Halloween candy (I know you will be happy to do this!), school supplies (pencils, markers, notebooks, crayons, etc.) and backpacks (gently used or brand new). If you would like to help support this important work, you will find boxes outside the front of school where these donations can be placed. This is just one of the Christian outreach efforts we will be conducting in the coming months. Look forward to more information about the Angel Tree, the Advent collection for the missions, and volunteer efforts that can support Family Assistant Ministries. We are entering a season that is ripe with opportunities to teach your children about stewardship! |
| Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist-Faith |
Parents of Students Preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist-Faith Forum. December 6th. Mark your calendars for this important event. This is an opportunity for you to meet and interact with other members of the parish and learn more about our Catholic faith as you prepare yourself and your child for their first reception of these important sacraments. You can attend any four of these sessions as a part of this important journey in the faith life of your family. The next Faith Forums will be held on January 10th and February 7th, and the parish retreat will be held on January 30th-31st and February 1st. The two plenary sessions that all parents of children preparing for Reconciliation and First Eucharist must attend, in addition to any of the four listed above, will be held on January 24th and February 14th. All presentations are in the church from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 or 9:00 p.m. See the brochure that was sent home by Miss Nelson for further details. |
| Great Opportunity for Retirees, Grandparents, Neighbors.. | |
Please pass this on to anyone who might help serve our school and students.
Our Lady of Fatima Parish School welcomes volunteers and engages them in meaningful ways in order to contribute to the academic progress of our students and the overall success of the school. As a volunteer, you can:
· Support teachers and the learning environment
· Help students achieve their full potential while building self esteem and confidence
· Be part of the fun and friendship at OLF School
Both Our Lady of Fatima Parish families and the broader community members are important resources to the school, and we welcome you to consider volunteering at the School.
WHAT'S NEEDED
· Literacy Tutor: Helps students achieve grade level and above growth in reading
· Math Tutor: Helps students meet state standards
· Recess Assistant: Assist during lunch hour with food service and/or recess supervision
· Annual Auction: Help Prepare for the Annual School Fundraiser, including Mailings, Data Entry, Solicitation, and Other (simple to complex) tasks (Winter-Spring)

HOW TO VOLUNTEER
We value your time and at the same time must ensure the safety of our students. Therefore, an application and interview process is necessary, and is carried out as efficiently as possible.
To become a OLF Volunteer:
1. Fill out a volunteer application by downloading the form at olfschool.net or stopping by the school office to pick one up
2. Once the application is received, the office will contact the applicant to complete an interview
3. All volunteers must participate in the Safe Environment Training - "Shield the Vulnerable." As part of the Diocese of Orange, all volunteers complete the safe environment training online. Fingerprinting through the Diocese of Orange is also mandatory.
Helping a student to learn to read, write or understand math is a powerful difference that you can make as a volunteer at OLF. WE hope you will consider joining the OLF volunteer program. |
| Box Tops & Campbell Soup Labels | Thank you to the families who are collecting BOX TOP, CAMPBELL'S SOUP LABELS, and RECYCLED PRINTER CARTRIDGES! We have been very successful so far and have collected nearly $100 from BOX TOPS alone for OLF! Let's keep up the good work. Just a reminder that we cannot accept expired BOX TOPS and only one expired BOX TOP can ruin a whole sheet or group if I accidentally miss it, so please check the dates. Feel free to use ziploc baggies as well. If you have any questions please contact Joey Carlton at (949) 481-9360. |
