Dear OLF Family and Friends, | |
FROM Mrs. Woodward
It is with great sadness that I have to announce to you that tomorrow, Friday the 19th, will be my last day here at OLF. I have been offered another opportunity locally that I couldn't pass up, and so I begin my new position on Monday. I cannot begin to tell you what a difficult decision this was, but ultimately it was the right decision for me and my family.
I truly want to thank you all for the wonderful sense of family you have provided for me over the last year. From the beginning I felt so welcomed and now have come to feel so cared for by everyone here. The past year has been an irreplaceable experience for me, and for this I cannot begin to express my gratitude enough.
Good luck to all of you and especially your wonderful children. I look forward to keeping in touch and am sure we'll run into one another around town!

| Special Persons Day | | Please plan on attending Special Persons Day tomorrow, Friday, November 19th at 2:00. Students are encouraged to bring an adult to the prayer service that day and to the reception following in the hall. This is a wonderful way to kick off our Thanksgiving week of giving thanks for all the blessings in our lives. Special persons are to meet your student at his/her classroom at 1:50.

 Yeah! Already 99 families have made commitments to this year's Annual Giving Campaign. Be the 100th family to participate and receive special recognition. Send in your pledge or gift now! Pledge forms and envelopes are available in the clinic. |
| Innisbrook Wraps & Helen Grace Chocolate Orders |  The Innisbrook Wraps and Helen Grace Chocolate orders are now completed. We expect your orders to be delivered on Friday morning and will be ready for collection during the Special Persons Day reception. Completed orders can be collected from your child's classroom. Please note that there are a few items on 'backorder'. You will be advised when these backorder items are received at OLF. Thank you once again for supporting our school community.

| Sports Program - "Patches" |  This year for our after school sports program, the student athletes were awarded patches instead of medals. The iron-on patches should be placed on the outside of the upper arm, on the right sleeve of their school uniform sweater. They will be able to add patches for each sport and each year they participate in a sport for Our Lady of Fatima Parish School. |
| 2011 - 2012 Scholarships |
 2011-2012 Scholarships: We will be using a new company next year to evaluate our scholarship applications. The new company is FAST (Financial Aid for School Tuition). Our website, olfschool.net, will have a link to the FAST website (we will have this up before the end of the day tomorrow). All FAST's applications are done online. The FAST site is very user-friendly and a customer service number is listed for questions. Please check out the website and what you will need to apply. You can go in and out of your application until you pay the $36 application (to FAST) and then your application is considered complete. There will be limited scholarship funds available for the 2011-2012 school year and no full scholarships can be awarded. As in prior years, applications will only be considered after they are complete and verified with supporting documentation. |
| December Christian Outreach | | If you are interested in adopting a family for the holidays, you can contact Family Assistance Ministries or visit http://www.brightfutures4kids.org/adopt_2010/adopt.php, to get the name of a family to support during the holidays. |
| Chess Academy | | Please pick up a sign-up sheet for the second session of after school Chess Academy in the clinic if interested. Forms are also available under downloads on www.olfschool.net. Please return your form to the clinic by November 29. Checks are made payable to Chess Academy. |
| Advent | Counting the days...
Advent begins in just three weeks. With all the preparations for Thanksgiving Day, it's easy for the season of Advent to sneak up on us, yet this time of preparation is important. It's a time for us to get ready to more fully celebrate God who came to us as one of us and who continues to be present to us. Here are two ways your parish would like to help you and your loved ones prepare for the birth of our Lord:
 Advent Wreath Gathering & Blessing
On Sunday, November 28, we will light the first of four candles on our parish Advent wreath. At 10am, parish families are invited to assemble their own Advent wreaths to take home and continue the celebration of the season. All materials including candles will be available here at church. The gathering will conclude prior to the 11 am Mass with a blessing of the wreaths. This is for EVERYONE!! Families with children, couples, singles etc. Six children are needed to participate in the blessing ritual. Contact Caylin Wade at caylinandgary@cox.net if you would like to volunteer. Suggested wreath donation: $5  Prepare for Christmas in just six minutes a day
The "Little Blue Book" for the season of Advent will be available at church for every parish household on the weekend of November 27 & 28, the First Sunday of Advent. Offering a brief daily prayer and reflection for each day of Advent, this book is one in the very popular series of "Little Books" from the Diocese of Saginaw, Michigan. It's simple, yet engaging, and will help you pray scripture and learn more about Catholic traditions, practices, and customs. The book is yours to take and keep; if you'd like to defray its cost, the suggested donation is $1 per copy. There will be no special collection of these donations; simply add it to your regular Sunday offering.

| Outreach to Mexico and More |
 For many years, families at OLF have supported the work of Build a Miracle, a non-profit organization based in San Diego, California that raises funds to build homes for needy families in Tijuana. OLF has helped to build many of the homes over the years. Some families have gone to Tijuana to help construct the homes. This year, the organization plans to host a Christmas party for families in the neighborhood where these homes have been built. They are asking their supporters to donate their leftover Halloween candy (I know you will be happy to do this!), school supplies (pencils, markers, notebooks, crayons, etc.) and backpacks (gently used or brand new). If you would like to help support this important work, you will find boxes outside the front of school where these donations can be placed. This is just one of the Christian outreach efforts we will be conducting in the coming months. Look forward to more information about the Angel Tree, the Advent collection for the missions, and volunteer efforts that can support Family Assistant Ministries. We are entering a season that is ripe with opportunities to teach your children about stewardship! |
| Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist-Faith |
 Parents of Students Preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist-Faith Forum. December 6th. Mark your calendars for this important event. This is an opportunity for you to meet and interact with other members of the parish and learn more about our Catholic faith as you prepare yourself and your child for their first reception of these important sacraments. You can attend any four of these sessions as a part of this important journey in the faith life of your family. The next Faith Forums will be held on January 10th and February 7th, and the parish retreat will be held on January 30th-31st and February 1st. The two plenary sessions that all parents of children preparing for Reconciliation and First Eucharist must attend, in addition to any of the four listed above, will be held on January 24th and February 14th. All presentations are in the church from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 or 9:00 p.m. See the brochure that was sent home by Miss Nelson for further details. |
| Safer Environment & After School Care Bills | It is mandatory per the Diocese that you stay up to date on your Safe Environment Training. Safe Environment training must be done every 3 years. This, along with a fingerprint clearance, must be done in order to volunteer or drive children to field trips or sports events. If you haven't already done so, please be sure your SET certificate of completion is on file here at OLF. Thank you for taking care of this important matter.
Reminder After School Care Bills are due on the 15th of each month. There is a $15 late fee for outstanding balances. We rely on your payments to keep our After School Care program successful. |
| Box Tops & Campbell Soup Labels |  Thank you to the families who are collecting BOX TOP, CAMPBELL'S SOUP LABELS, and RECYCLED PRINTER CARTRIDGES! We have been very successful so far and have collected nearly $100 from BOX TOPS alone for OLF! Let's keep up the good work. Just a reminder that we cannot accept expired BOX TOPS and only one expired BOX TOP can ruin a whole sheet or group if I accidentally miss it, so please check the dates. Feel free to use ziploc baggies as well. If you have any questions please contact Joey Carlton at (949) 481-9360. |
