The Love of Christ Urges Us On

Dear OLF Family and Friends,

The results from the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and Cognitive Abilities Test will be coming home TODAY, November 11 for grades 2-8.  I invite all parents interested in learning more about the assessment, along with learning about our upcoming SCRIP PROGRAM, to join us for a parent meeting. We will offer two sessions to hopefully accommodate your busy schedules. The same meeting will take place on Monday, November 15 at 6:30 PM and Tuesday, November 16 at 8:15 AM. Every parent that attends will receive a FREE DRESS PASS  for their child(ren) for  THURSDAY, November 18th.

A special thank you to Greg Von Urff, father of Christina is in the 1st grade, for designing our  falcon logo. We are excited to be rolling out the new logo. It is terrific, thanks Greg!!!!

Blessings, Mrs. Tipton

Special Persons Day
Please plan on attending Special Persons Day on Friday, November 19th at 2:00.  Students are encouraged to bring an adult to the prayer service that day and to the reception following in the hall.  This is a wonderful way to kick off our Thanksgiving week of giving thanks for all the blessings in our lives.

Directory change

Please note that the home number published in the directory for the Ferrara family is incorrect.  The correct home phone number is (949) 492-9960.

Extra Directories: If you would like to keep a directory in your car or office, please stop in the clinic. They are $5 each.

Sports Program - "Patches"
sportsThis year for our after school sports program, the student athletes were awarded patches instead of medals.  The iron-on patches should be placed on the outside of the upper arm, on the right sleeve of their school uniform sweater.  They will be able to add patches for each sport and each year they participate in a sport for Our Lady of Fatima Parish School.

November Christian Outreach

FAMThanks to all who walked or supported walkers in the Hunger Walk.  Please don't forget to visit the FAM website and learn about ways you can further support this important local ministry during the holiday season at http://www.family-assistance.org/  or call 949-492-8477.

The Annual Thanksgiving Feast will be held at the San Clemente Community Center on November 24th.   You can volunteer to bring food items for the feast or help with the serving.  If you have a junior high student looking for service hours, tAdopt-a-childhis is a great opportunity for them to serve others.

If you are interested in adopting a family for the holidays, you can contact Family Assistance Ministries or visit http://www.brightfutures4kids.org/adopt_2010/adopt.php, to get the name of a family to support during the holidays.

Advent

Counting the days...
Advent begins in just three weeks.  With all the preparations for Thanksgiving Day, it's easy for the season of Advent to sneak up on us yet this time of preparation is important.  It's a time for us to get ready to more fully celebrate God who came to us as one of us and who continues to be present to us.  Here are two ways your parish would like to help you and your loved ones prepare for the birth of our Lord:
advent wreath

 Advent Wreath Gathering & Blessing
On Sunday, November 28, we will light the first of four candles on our parish Advent wreath.  At 10am, parish families are invited to assemble their own Advent wreaths to take home and continue the celebration of the season.  All materials including candle will be available here at church.  The gathering will conclude prior to the 11 am Mass with a blessing of the wreaths.  This is for EVERYONE!!  Families with children, couples, singles etc.  Six children are needed to participate in the blessing ritual.  Contact Caylin Wade at caylinandgary@cox.net  if you would like to volunteer. Suggested wreath donation: $5

advent blue bookPrepare for Christmas in just six minutes a day
The "Little Blue Book" for the season of Advent will be available at church for every parish household on the weekend of November 27 & 28, the First Sunday of Advent.  Offering a brief daily prayer and reflection for each day of Advent, this book is one in the very popular series of "Little Books" from the Diocese of Saginaw, Michigan.  It's simple, yet engaging, and will help you pray scripture and learn more about Catholic traditions, practices, and customs.  The book is yours to take and keep; if you'd like to defray its cost, the suggested donation is $1 per copy.  There will be no special collection of these donations; simply add it to your regular Sunday offering.

JSerra Open House

jserra
Joanne Barron ( OLF ALUM PARENT class of 2007 Kyle and JC Barrron) has graciously agreed to host an open house/information night reception for prospective JSerra Students and their parents on Wednesday November 17th.  It is a really informal night and a chance to ask questions in a small gathering. Administration, teachers and current students will be in attendance along with other families who are considering the school.
 Please see link provided.

Outreach to Mexico and More

build a miracleFor many years, families at OLF have supported the work of Build a Miracle, a non-profit organization based in San Diego, California that raises funds to build homes for needy families in Tijuana.  OLF has helped to build many of the homes over the years.  Some families have gone to Tijuana to help construct the homes.  This year, the organization plans to host a Christmas party for families in the neighborhood where these homes have been built.  They are asking their supporters to donate their leftover Halloween candy (I know you will be happy to do this!), school supplies (pencils, markers, notebooks, crayons, etc.) and backpacks (gently used or brand new).  If you would like to help support this important work, you will find boxes outside the front of school where these donations can be placed.  This is just one of the Christian outreach efforts we will be conducting in the coming months.  Look forward to more information about the Angel Tree, the Advent collection for the missions, and volunteer efforts that can support Family Assistant Ministries.  We are entering a season that is ripe with opportunities to teach your children about stewardship!

Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist-Faith

eucharistParents of Students Preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist-Faith Forum. December 6th.  Mark your calendars for this important event.  This is an opportunity for you to meet and interact with other members of the parish and learn more about our Catholic faith as you prepare yourself and your child for their first reception of these important sacraments. You can attend any four of these sessions as a part of this important journey in the faith life of your family.   The next Faith Forums will be held on January 10th and February 7th, and the parish retreat will be held on January 30th-31st and February 1st.  The two plenary sessions that all parents of children preparing for Reconciliation and First Eucharist must attend, in addition to any of the four listed above, will be held on January 24th and February 14th.  All presentations are in the church from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 or 9:00 p.m.  See the brochure that was sent home by Miss Nelson for further details.

Altar Server Training
altar servers If your son or daughter is in 4th-8th grades and has received First Communion they are eligible to become an altar server at Our Lady of Fatima Church.  They will be assigned to serve at Sunday Mass and will be given the opportunity to serve the weekly school Mass held on Fridays.  The training for new servers will be held in the church on Saturday, November 13th from 9:30-10:30 a.m.  If your child wants to attend the training have him/her pick up an application from the clinic by tomorrow, Nov. 12th.  The application is to be returned to Chris and Lilta Shultz when they attend the training.
Thanksgiving Food Drive for FAM-Spirit Day

food driveOn Tuesday, November  16th, we will have a Food For FAM drive for Thanksgiving.  Each student is asked to bring an item that would bless the holiday table of a hungry family.  Items needed are canned fruits and vegetables, boxed dressing, canned yams or instant mashed potatoes, and bags of rice or beans.  Any other food items are also welcome.  Students who contribute may wear their spirit shirt and jeans.  Let's fill the shelves at FAM with our donations!
After School Care Bills
Reminder, please pay your After School Care bills by Monday the 15th to avoid $15.00 late fee.   Please turn into the clinic.
