The Love of Christ Urges Us On

Dear OLF Family and Friends,

Thank you for your continued support of all that we do at OLF. I especially would like to thank our POF volunteers for taking "Classstaff Buddy" pictures at our Harvest Day celebration last week and also our classroom volunteers for decorating their cars for the Trunk or Treat. Thank you to the Room Angels and the Parents of Fatima Board who continually support the daily operation of the school. You are terrific!

Thank you to all our parents and students for attending our Annual Giving Campaign Early Bird Breakfast. A very special THANK YOU to the Knights of Columbus for providing and preparing our delicious breakfast. They arrived at 6:00 AM to begin cooking and were the last ones to leave. We are are so grateful for your support of OLF. Thank you to Sandy Cestari for organizing the event and Gillan Dodd and Jacqueline Goodreau for their dedication to the Annual Giving Campaign.

The results from the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and Cognative Abilities Test will be coming home next Thursday, November 11 for grades 2-8.  I invite all parents interested in learning more about the assessment, along with learning about our upcoming SCRIP PROGRAM, to join us for a parent meeting. We will offer two sessions to hopefully accomodate your busy schedules. Student Spotlight ~ Greg Evans

gregGreg Evans, 8th grader, has been asked by the JSerra Catholic High School Music Department to be the drummer for the JSerra Jazz Band. Greg played his first performance on October 27  for JSerra at their Fall concert to substantial applause!
Greg was singled out by Mr. Weed (JSerra Jazz Director) in his speech to the audience: "We are lucky enough to have Greg Evans with us now on drums - an up and coming talent from Our Lady of Fatima School" Congratulations Greg, we are so proud of you!
Special Persons Day
Please plan on attending Special Persons Day on Friday, November 19th at 2:00.  Students are encouraged to bring an adult to the prayer service that day and to the reception following in the hall.  This is a wonderful way to kick off our Thanksgiving week of giving thanks for all the blessings in our lives.

Advent

adventCounting the days...
Advent begins in just three weeks.  With all the preparations for Thanksgiving Day, it's easy for the season of Advent to sneak up on us.  Yet, this time of preparation is important.  It's a time for us to get ready to more fully celebrate God who came to us as one of us and who continues to be present to us.  Here are two ways your parish would like to help you and your loved ones prepare for the birth of our Lord:
advent wreath

 Advent Wreath Gathering & Blessing
On Sunday, November 28, we will light the first of four candles on our parish Advent wreath.  At 10am, parish families are invited to assemble their own Advent wreaths to take home and continue the celebration of the season.  All materials including candle will be available here at church.  The gathering will conclude prior to the 11 am Mass with a blessing of the wreaths.  This is for EVERYONE!!  Families with children, couples, singles etc.  Six children are needed to participate in the blessing ritual.  Contact Caylin Wade at caylinandgary@cox.net  if you would like to volunteer. Suggested wreath donation: $5

advent blue bookPrepare for Christmas in just six minutes a day
The "Little Blue Book" for the season of Advent will be available for every parish household on the weekend of November 27 & 28, the First Sunday of Advent.  Offering a brief daily prayer and reflection for each day of Advent, this book is one in the very popular series of "Little Books" from the Diocese of Saginaw, Michigan.  It's simple, yet engaging, and will help you pray scripture and learn more about Catholic traditions, practices, and customs.  The book is yours to take and keep; if you'd like to defray its cost, the suggested donation is $1 per copy.  There will be no special collection of these donations; simply add it to your regular Sunday offering.
