| Dear OLF Family and Friends, | |
On Wednesday (10/27) when witches fly
A fun new OLF festivity we will try...
"Trunk or Treat" will be the way
We celebrate this special day.
To help us gather goodies galore
We ask each parent to visit the store.
From now 'til then bring in treats
Our office will horde them nice 'n neat.
They will be served when we parade
We hope for plenty for each grade.
Each child may dress for a fun-filled day
All costumes should be the Catholic way.
So with only one thing left to say,
We hope you will come and play!

If you are interested in donating items (candy, erasers, pencils, etc.) for our Trunk or Treat, please send in to the office by Monday, October 25. Thank you! Mrs. Julie Tipton |

Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. and the walk ends at 2:00 p.m. Students in 7th and 8th grades can earn service points by gathering sponsors and participating in this event. We hope to see many OLF families participating in this most important fundraiser. If your family is unable to participate, please support all the faculty and staff by placing your pledge in the donor envelope that will be outside the school office during the coming weeks. All the funds raised during the walk support the work of FAM as they help local individuals and families in need. You will find a flyer and donor sheet in the attachments with this newsletter. |

| What is a Student Led Review? | The most important subject we teach at OLF is the student. Our Lady of Fatima Parish School has been doing Student-Led conferencing for many years but as it evolves and changes, I understand it is important to communicate why we do certain things. The word "Conference" is misleading. We offer Parent Conferences every day throughout the school year to be scheduled as needed. Concerns should never wait until a particular day on the calendar. On October 29th, your child will have the opportunity to share their progress with you. This is a time for your child to be in the "spotlight" and to positively encourage the student engagement in the learning process.
The concept: The student is in charge of the review with the parents. The teacher simply serves as a discussion facilitator when needed while multiple reviews are taking place simultaneously.
The student-led process typically is recognized as three phases: preparation, the actual review, and an evaluation. More to follow next week. |
|
Save the Dates | |
Student Led Reviews will be on Thursday, October 28. The review hours will be between 9:00 AM and 5:40 PM. Sign-up sheets will be posted at 7:30 AM on Monday, October 18. Please plan on scheduling a SLR with your student.
Please join us for our Veteran's Day Prayer Service on Thursday, November 11 at 8:00 AM with special guests from the Camp Pendleton USMC battalion of 2/4. They will provide our color guard. We hope you will be able to join us for this wonderful tradition at OLF and we invite all our active and retired family members to join us in uniform that day so we may celebrate you. |

Early Bird Special!
Contribute to the Annual Giving Campaign today! All pledge payments and gifts received BY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27 will earn your family an exclusive invitation to join us for breakfast on Wednesday, November 3 at 8:00 AM in the hall. |

| Music Academy | |
The JSCHS Music Academy will be offering music classes to students in Grades 4-8 . Students can learn to play Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Cello, Violin, and Viola. Classes start Monday, October 18th for strings from 3:50-4:20 pm (strings) in the Prayer Room at Our Lady of Fatima School. If your child is participating in the strings class, they will be permitted to use the After School Care program for free until their lesson. Please see flyers attached under QUICK LINKS for more information. Mrs. Backes will need the packets returned with checks by Friday, October 16th in order to know how many books and music stands to bring. Students will be officially enrolled only when they return the paperwork with a check. For more information on the program please contact: Mrs. Terrie Backes, Instrumental Music Director JSerra Catholic High School, 949-233-2386 tbackes@jserra.org |
| The Birthday-in-a-Box Service Project | The Birthday-in-a-Box Service Project recognizes the importance of a birthday in a person's life. They mark progress and are the hope of a new year to come. Sadly, because of various reasons, there are many people whose birthdays will pass without any celebration. Receiving that special gift, enjoying a slice of birthday cake after blowing out the candles, and the knowledge that someone remembered you and took the time to let you know they care can make a difference. This year the 5th grade students at Our Lady of Fatima Parish School are doing what they can to provide normalcy, joy, and hope in the lives of those who may not otherwise have a birthday celebration. |
