Dear Friends,
I wanted to provide a quick update on Senate Bill 5, the bill that would largely curtail collective bargaining in Ohio. Ohio's legislation is more extreme than the bill that was just signed into law in Wisconsin. Ohio's proposed legislation would even limit the ability of firefighters and police officers to bargain for necessary safety equipment.

The bill is currently being heard the commerce and labor committee of the Ohio House. Despite the unprecedented outpouring of public opposition, the bill appears likely headed for passage in the coming weeks. I am committed to fighting SB 5, which unfairly targets Ohio's middle class. If the bill does pass the House, I will stand with my constituents to help overturn it on the ballot.

Below is an email from Armond Budish, Ohio's House Democratic Leader. Please take a moment to read the message, and sign the petition. We will deliver the petition to the House majority later this week. Thank you!

State Representative Debbie Phillips Ohio House District 92
Message from House Democratic Leader, Armond Budish:
SB 5, Kasich's partisan bill to strip bargaining right from hard working Ohioans has just begun hearings in the House. While SB5 is aimed at public employees, don't be fooled - it's only the first step in a broad attack on the wages and benefits of all working families. If passed, teachers will have no recourse if they don't agree with management's offer and if you strike, you go to jail. My name is Armond Budish, House Democratic Leader; people have asked me what we can do, given the Republicans significant majority.
Here's what we will do:
We'll Fight Like Hell for Ohio's teachers who shape the future of Ohio: our kids.
We'll Fight Like Hell to keep SB 5 from getting out of committee.
If that fails, we'll Fight Like Hell to beat this bill on the House floor.
If that fails, we'll Fight Like Hell to reject SB 5 at the ballot box.

And then, in November 2012, we'll Fight Like Hell to win back control of the Ohio House so that partisan, destructive bills like SB 5 can NOT happen again.
Please help us Fight Like Hell. We need your help.
Please sign our petition showing your opposition to SB 5 and the Republican attacks on Ohio's teachers. We'll present these signatures to the House Commerce and Labor Committee. To sign the petition, click here: http://bit.ly/OHDCpetition

We pledge to Fight Like Hell for you!
Sincerely,
Armond Budish
Minority Leader
Ohio House Democratic Caucus
