Greetings!

The Rolex Three-Day Event gets underway this week. Allison Springer, Sinead Halpin and Rebecca Howard kicked things off by visiting the Booker T. Washington Elementary Academy to participate in the Black Stallion Literacy Project and to tell the kids a bit about their horses and what they do.  On Friday afternoon the Owners Course walk will take place, hosted by Julie Richards and Bobby Costello.  Saturday features the PRO Rider Q & A for spectators who will get a chance to ask a panel of riders any question they wish.  PRO riders will also be blogging throughout the week for the new live blog format - fantastic partnership between the USEA, The Chronicle of The Horse and Eventing Nation.

What horse changed your career?

Sir Cambridge was a horse I got out of a backyard for $500 when I was 10 years old   I had ridden mostly ponies before that. I brought him up through Intermediate by the time I was 15. He was super difficult to ride but taught me a ton.

2. Can you tell us about your pre-competition routine and/or rituals?

I spend a lot of time in my trailer getting ready and visualizing myself riding my test or jumping the course. I also yawn a lot!

3. What's the best advice you have for riders who want to increase their riding skills and horsemanship?

Spend as much time at the barn and ride anything you can. Every horse has something to teach you. Attend clinics and watch and listen to what the clinician teaches everyone, not just you.

4. What is your educational background?

High school graduate. Some college. ICP Level 3 Instructor. B Pony Clubber.

5. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

To be Invincible Woman

6. Last book read?

What to Say When You Talk To Yourself by Shad Holmstetter

7. If you weren't a professional event rider, what would you be?

A Professional Beach Volleyball Player

8. What famous person (living or deceased) would you most like to have a conversation with?

Not famous, but my dad. He died when I was really young and I would love to have a conversation with him.

9. Which phase do you like most and why?

Cross-country, because it is so exciting, technical, and unpredictable. Also because I like to go fast.

10. When and why did you decide to turn professional?

When I was about 13 I was learning how to teach for my B Pony Club Rating as well as riding many horses for clients in our barn. I loved it.

11. How did your family respond to your decision to ride horses professionally?

No one was ever surprised since I had been riding horses and teaching lessons since I was really young. I also came from a riding family. My grandparents were Foxhunters and Dressage Riders. Then my mom and aunt rode cow horses and gymkana. I had a pony ready for me before I was even born.

12. Which horseman/horsewoman has been the most influential in your own development or career?

Virginia " Ginnie" Bryant. I trained with her from the time I was 9 years old and then worked for her in my early adult years. Brian Sabo has also been a great Mentor.

13. What motto best describes you?

The best way to kill time is to work it to death.
