Dear Supporters,
The winter has been one for Bridge to Freedom Foundation (BTFF), as we wrapped up all the big events of the fall and prepared for the end of the year and our biggest and fanciest event of the year. The weekend before Thanksgiving BTFF kicked off the spirit of the holiday season in true style with the Capital City Ball, for which BTFF was an official partner. It was an amazing evening full of not only glitz and glamour, but outstanding support for BTFF and our partners. After a few years of working tirelessly all of our volunteers, new and old, were able to see our hard work pay off as we stood side-by-side some of our biggest anti-trafficking partners.
As we bring 2011 to a close we are all excited to have both began and ended the year on a high note and as we get ready to go into 2012 we couldn't be more excited. As we embark on our third and biggest year we are even more excited to share our message, expand our reach, and to transition from an entirely volunteer-based organization to that of one with a funded core staff. Please see our opportunities section if you would like to be part of history and be part of this new and exciting phase of BTFF; this will open many doors for countless survivors of modern slavery.
Thank you f or your support,
Cassandra Clifford Executive Director and Founder

BRIDGE TO FREEDOM FOUNDATION NEWS | |
 Capital City Ball
On Saturday, November 19, 2011 more than 200 people dressed to the nines came decended upon the historic Washington Club in Dupont Circle. All this glitz and glamor wasn't for show, but to support the fight to end modern slavery. BTFF was honored to be a benificiary alongside Courtney's House, HIPS and WEAVE. The event was not only an amazing success from a fundraising standpoint, but generated a great deal of awareness in the Nation's Capital and beyond as seen by press coverage in mediums such as; Washington Life, BizNow, The Georgetowner, Glitterazzi, and DC MetroMix.
You can also see all of our amazing photos from the ball here and don't forget to also check out the stunning images captured by Open Eye Studio's the official Ball photographers! Thank you again to everyone who came out in support of this great event and all the amazing volunteers that made it happen!

Bensouda to take on gender violence at ICC
Holding perpetrators of gender-based crimes accountable for their actions will receive increased focus moving forward, newly elected International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda says. Bensouda, who is the first woman to hold the ICC's top prosecution position, believes the court's efforts can help end the impunity that surrounds sexual assault and gender-based crime in many parts of the world. U.S. States Failing to Protect Children from Sexual Exploitation
Shared Hope International announced Protected Innocence Initiative in San Antonio, Texas on 1 December. The long awaited report from the extensive project looked at the sex trafficking legislation in all 50 States and the District of Columbia, and then gave each state a letter grade and full report card. The report graded each individual state on whether it has laws to protect children who are pushed into the sex trade and laws established to punish those who seek out such services. Leaders of the group say there's a lot of room for improvement. The results of the report were shocking to most, as over half of the states received grades of D or F. End of Year Review on Children's Rights Shows Need to Increase Awareness on Modern Slavery
The issues of modern slavery continually plagued our headlines, as children across the world faced forced child labor, were held as sex slaves, and were violently enrolled in child armies. However, this year I did notice a substantial shift in the headlines bringing more focus to the issue of child marriage across the globe, as well as the issue of domestic minor sex trafficking in the United States, both of which greatly needed, and still need, more focus.
