Greetings!

DonnaMy name is Donna Pelletier and I am the new Volunteer Coordinator for MBCN. We have an exciting year planned and need your help, starting with our new Project Outreach. (see below)

I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2005. Since that time, I have served this unique community in many ways.  As an Advocate, Patient Peer and Educator, it was made clear to me that ongoing awareness and education are greatly needed. People need People and it starts with me and you!

I look forward to speaking with you about Project Outreach and other volunteer opportunities. Click HERE to volunteer!

Sincerely,

Donna

VOLUNTEER

Do you have Metastastic Breast Cancer?

We can help!

And we really mean it.....We want every woman (and man) diagnosed with mbc to have the opportunity to learn about us and take advantage of the information, programs and list of resources and support groups we've compiled.

Our goal is to add contacts to our email list in order to disseminate our information more widely and reach more people, so that our voice is stronger.

Where do you fit in?

Volunteer to be part of the Outreach team. Work from your computer with our assistance to compile a list. Then call or visit the potential contacts. Personal relationship is key!

Shirley's Advocacy Update on the Komen Roundtable on mbc
Shirley MertzIt seems like a very long time ago (prior to the Komen-Planned Parenthood controversy), but late in January, I had the pleasure of meeting nine other metastatic breast cancer patients from across the United States during a meeting at the Komen headquarters in Dallas, Texas.  Our common goal was to share with the staff of Komen the concerns and needs of metastatic breast cancer patients whom we had met along our journey.

"Practice-changing" findings at SABCS for Her2+ and ER+ cancers

Listen to the co-director of the SanAntonio Breast Cancer Symposium talk about "practice changing" clinical trial results.

  • A new drug, Pertuzumab, has shown improved results for HER2+ cancer when paired with Herceptin.  (FDA has scheduled a fast-track review for June 8, 2012)
  • Kidney cancer drug Affinitor also showed good results, tackling the problem of resistance to ER+ drugs.
  • Studies confirm that bone strengthening treatments like zometa and xgeva -- long suspected of also having tumor fighting effects-- do slow down tumor growth.
Say hello at C4YW in New Orleans Feb24-26
If you're traveling to New Orleans for the February 24-26 Conference for Young Women, we'll be there! Be sure to stop by our table and introduce yourself.  The conference is sponsored by YSC (Young Survival Coalition) and LBBC (Living Beyond Breast Cancer) for all young women with breast cancer, but there are a number of workshops specifically for people with metastatic disease.
Sarah's Story:
Fighting Every Day for a Tomorrow
SSaraharah's brother was diagnosed with acute leukemia six months prior to her first diagnosis of breast cancer when she was only 26 years old. Sarah thought that if he could fight cancer then so could she. Three years later, Sarah's cancer metastasized.

Read more of her story of facing and overcoming obstacles.
   Thank you!
We were thrilled by your generous response to our annual appeal. It's heartening that you have given us your vote of confidence through your donations and we will continue to strive to live up to the trust you've placed in us.
